hacking/skinning the MCP core

/me wonders what your talking about.

I don't get that when my machine starts up.

It'll probably be in one of the files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock

It clearly says that you can hide it by hitting ESC.....

...after hitting esc you should never see it again......

I liek it because it hides whats its doing.

There's only a few programs activates it i think, when ObjectBar, DesktopX and perhaps Tab Launchpad is enabled for start up.

I GOT IT. it is c:/program files/common files/sdmpc.exe!!! (you may have a different drive letter)

When you open it with ResHacker, there is a PNG file labelled 109. you can replace with the png file of your choice and it will load. To replace the progress bar, simply replace the bmp. This is sooooooooooooooo cool! wow!!! If you ask me, Stardock should make their MPC core skinnable. Then I wouldnt have had to go through all this trouble.


I have started a new revolution of hacking the MPC core!!! Someday in the future, Wincustomize will make a section of MPC core pictures!!! Yay!!!

BTW, for those of you who dont know, the MPC core is that thing that says Stardock Object Desktop when you load up ur machine and loads up programs such as ObjectBar and DesktopX

anyway. In my opinion I think you are at the wrong site for registry editting and file hacking. There is nothing wrong with either in my opinion, but this site is more geared towards skins and family...not techie stuff.

Resource Hacking is not something we wildly promote as 'mistakes' can cause unfortunate results.

Also, Hacking these resources is generally a violation of the Company's EULA [learn about that one first]...and did I mention that this site is owned by Stardock which means.............

Well if he starts another thread wondering how its crashing you'll know why. Sometimes during SDC update when it asks to reboot your machine usually because its updated MCP core files. So he might loose his new compiled images.

Why would you even WANT to hack your system? most times even styleXP messes stuff up I can't imagine what would happen if you hack all these things, decide to change it, and your system crashes for good.

Kona....various skinning forms originated by people hacking proggies to create the changes.  Winamp's first skin was a hack....which led to all those since.

The only issue is with 'legality' and safety.  I've hacked things and killed them when I got it wrong....and that's a fun issue if it's a system file that's critical to the OS...

with xp is not nearly as big as a problem. you saw my other thread. I totally whacked out my system and I had it back up and running in an hour.

Now I know I could of fixed it in 5 minutes

I really dont think it is illegal to change a few images in a program. About stability, in my opinion, trying to "blind" or mask your computer causes way more problems than hacking it.

If Stardock really didnt want ppl to hack the MCP core, they would make it skinnable : )

I think you'll find that the EULA tells you what Stardock 'wants and doesn't want'.

You are granted permission to use the program, not to abuse it by reverse engineering...
