Making a wallpaper with 3dstudiomax

There is no basics to making a wallpaper, there are rules, you need certain sizes, needs to work as a wallpaper i.e. not be cluttered or so busy that you can't see your icons, but there isn't a magic button push that make wallpapers.

Use your imagination, construct whatever you like, 3D Studio Max is easy to make stuff, what version do u have?
Look around you, pick up ideas where you are, no limit at all

I have read somewhere that I can make Desktop X buttons that actually can make skin and walls like that
Just give it a push and you got a really nice skin or wallpaper

But Diceyduppedydog, dig inside your brain and you will find inspiration and time to make real good wallpapers!!

but if you make a wallpapers, what do you start with??? I like those 3d wallpapers, with the science fiction kinda idea, bright colours and stuff like that..

I understand that you basically got to have an good imagination.. but i need to know where to start, must i start from scratch or must i use an picture, and then twirl it around and blurr it enz enz.. And what are the sizes for wallpapers ? i only know 1024x768 and 1200x1600...

800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960 are all the same aspect ratio for wallpapers.
1280x1024 is what I use, but it's a different AR.

For a wallpaper submission, perhaps include the top list of resolutions, 1280x1024 seems to be heavily in use here, but It's not necessary to include that -- at least make sure you include a 1280x960 and a 1600x1200.
According to many online statistics, over 80% of people STILL use 800x600 as desktop sizes -- but it seems to be different here. [maybe they need a poll asking just that? *looks at Jafo*...]

The reason most people HERE use higher than 800x600 is because most people here are graphics inclined, skinners, stuff like that. Most users do have 800x600, but most of those people use their computer 3 times a week to check email and have dust on their keyboards.

If 3D max isnt your cake, go photoshop.
Make sure you have alot of time to make quality wallpapers.

Depends ENTIRELY on personal preference.... Photoshop 7 is my personal preference, for almost anything. If you're wanting 3D art, try a modelling program to get started [to learn how to make models etc] -- I use Rhino for modelling. For the actual 3d composition and layout/scene? 3DS is really good. Cinema4D is also big, but I *still* prefer Lightwave7.5
Maybe you prefer fractals? Try 'UltraFractal'
Like I said, it entirely depends on your preference for type of wallpapers and intended results.

Lightwave and photoshop together make awesome walls -- IMO [but it all boils down to the skills and creativity of the artist behind the apps]

photoshop is nice, I kind of grow into it. Before I started to use photoshop I was doing everything with tools from macromedia. Switching to photoshop was terrible and I couldn't even make a resonable sphere but afterall I am REALLY glad I did it. (It was 2 years ago )
Stick to photoshop with your first walls, always comes handy texturing your models later.

I don't use bryce, but in programs I use it could be done by making a sphere, and pulling the vertex points using soft selections (polygons) or pulling control points (nurbs). Might just have to let skinner give you more details

yeah, it was bryce, it was kinda easy to create (with bryce... DUHHH ) Importing 3d model objects from photoshop, smoothing them in bryce and rendering them. Used bryce because of the nice standard glass textures.

Like horizon said, its much easier to do with 3dsmax pulling mesh points out of a sphere, smoothing it and done..

not to mention it would take about 4 min to render instead of 3 days lol

true, really love the network render function in 3dsmax currently have 3 pc's rendering 1 movie. (15 frames per second, movie takes about 2 minutes, render time per frame is 10 minutes... )

godspeed in hoping you don't catch an error halfway through it, I'd like to see it when you're done though
