questions???

I received the following page when I tried to download a WB skin - I would love to be able to afford a wincustomize subscription but unfortunately there are some of us out here who very much enjoy your programs and skins but I have no way to pay for a subscription. I am a disabled woman with only a very limited fixed income, there is no way to stretch it to cover additional expenses - we're just past the xmas season and I couldn't even send gifts to my family. Please don't cut me off --

This doesn't necessarily mean you've been cut off, it just means that, as a Citizen, you've got a 50MB limit that it appears you've reached. The only way to get past that limit, is to:

a) Contribute to the message boards and skinning community, and hope that you get noticed and then promoted, or

b) Pay the $20 for a two year WinCustomize subscription with unlimited downloads.

c) Purchase a Stardock product, and cross-reference the two accounts.

HEY!! I'm Purrrfektlyme... and no one else!! !

Thought for my first post I would start here since I have QUESTIONS... MANY QUESTIONS.... also this would give me an opportunity to Say hello and introduce meself....

To start off I would like to mention that 99% of the Jabber on this site is completely over my head!!!! I decided though that this is a perfect place for me to hang around. I LOVE to 'dress' my desktop up and I am always finding suitable themes for the season or my mood....

Previously I have just downloaded cheap or free themes from MSN downloads (and whatever links I got from there.) But today I decided to just hit the search engine to find some variety... BOY did I find it!!!! Ha ha ha!! I fell in love with the first three themes I ran across here. So I imediately downloaded one of them.... WOOPS!!! I didn't even check out the whole site first.... well anyhow, I couldn't get it to work so I hopped back onto the site to look for instructions. I ended up signing up for a basic subscription (just wanta try it out first) and downloaded the stardock free thingy... and then redownloaded the theme I wanted to try out and I still couldn't get it to work...

OK...How do I get the darn things to work??? I probably downloaded it in the wrong spot... or I might not have downloaded the right thingy... Here is where I start feeling like an idiot.... I understand that eventually I will need to increes my Sub. to meet my needs... and I understand that I need to register any products I get.... does any of this have to do with why I can't get this theme to work??? Do I have to have a certain program to make the themes work??? are there some themes that use different programs???? AHHHH!!!!!!

I dunnoo.... PLEASE help me learn to navigate this place and these alien tounges....

SIGNED,

Hi!

To get started get windowblinds (there is a free trial that does most stuff) here: https://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/
and install it.

Now in on the left hand side of the site there is an option called windowblinds click on it and download what you want. With windowblinds installed the skins should automatically install themselves. once you have downloaded the skin. right click on your desktop and choose display properties. go to the appearence section. there should be a drop down menu there that has the skin you downloaded in it. select it then hit ok or apply.

Once you get that figured out, go back to stardock and check out the other programs there. You can find skins for them in the catagories marked the same as the program name.

Hope I didn't confuse you more

For the windowblind skins you need the program windowblinds.
For the Icons, you need the program iconpackager.
For DesktopX themes, you need DesktopX.
For sysmetrix, logons, and bootscreens, you need their prospective programs, which are free.

All of the above are available in trial versions or free. For the full enhanced versions on the trial programs with no restrictions, you need to purchase Object Desktop.
You can find the information for purchasing or trials on the left under Resources. Click software, it should tell you everything else you need to know. Welcome aboard. Isn't skinning fun?

Welcome Purrrfektlyme !!!

I know just what you mean. I was hooked after the first viewing too! You will eventually become so attatched to your skins that you hate working on a computer that isn't skinned! You are going about it in the best manner too. I look forward to conversing with you in stardock central chat once you've gotten your object desktop subscription set up. I am one of the WC patrons that isn't really an artist, merely an appreciater of fine work. I love to change my desktop on a regular basis(much to my poor husband's dismay! he never knows where I've put things!). I've been an OD subscriber now , well going on three years. I can't wait each day I sign on to see what new trinkets I can decorate with. This year, I hope to add a WC subscription to my credits. You couldn't find a nicer community to share with. The ratio of maturity to infancy is very pleasant. The small amount of childishness around is far outweighed by the mature, and friendly helpfulness that abounds here. So glad you've decided to add us to your online family.
