What's with this approval thing???!!

I posted a theme 3 days ago and it is still waiting for approval!

I really dont understand this approval thing! I meeen first are the people of WC all knowing to the point they know all the stuff that is on the net to be able to know if it was original work!
I say the easiest way is to just let people upload their work and then if someone notices policy infrigement they just push a button to report it!
I started submitting a while ago into wincustomize and once I submited some stuff I made about the Manga Akira, after it got rejected for whatever not being my work reason (although it was my work!) I was so pissed I deleted all my submissions except one (because it was being downloaded by friends) and until now I submitted nothing new...

I allways thought it was not enough to subscribe and just download stuff, it is good to give some of one work too, but this is becoming really anoying!
So I say stop this approval thing! Let the people here be responsible adults!

The moderation is for moderation. If some work gets uploaded that is inappropriate in its nature a moderator can reject it before it gets posted. That also goes for people subbmitting others work without their permission.

Ask Jafo about us being responsible adults! how many things does he take care of for us?

That one posted 3 days ago bypassed moderation 3 days ago, subsequebtly withdrawn and was approved 2 days ago.

T-Man has 'fixed' the error where-by some works slipped through [only to be unrated and therefore invisible to most people].

Some members have reached a position where they do bypass moderation....a position of trust which is earned and is not a 'right'.

Generally, considering the questionable content many attempt to upload/submit, this situation [moderation] will not be changing...

Sites with zero levels of moderation tend to be foar more rife with 'dubious content' than is the case here at Wincustomize.com...

What does it mean when you submit something for approval, and in your "My Skins" page..they just don't show up anymore? For a day or 2 they said "Waiting Approval"..now.. they're just gone. I have no email saying they were denied, so I'm sorta confused. Thanks for any help.

yeah those are denied, and I have to say this is something I wish was just a tad different, I think the automated email outta be sent out whether it's accepted or not. But if you do have a question as to why, an admin will always let you know if you ask them, (preferably via e-mail)

i agree that you can't rely on people to be trustworthy.. and many people here surely arn't even adults

Wolf-ZR2..... yes, we have our reasons. I wish it could be different too, but in the past when rejection notices for walls were sent out, the Mods received too much hate mail in return. Not just you suck type stuff, but really nasty replies.

lol...not a problem man. I understand. Incidentally, I sent you an email for some insight on my 2 subs. Thanks in advance.

Well, anyway I guess you guys have your reasons but I still think that there is some stuff being denied unfairly.

What you see as 'fair' will not be 'fair' in anothers eyes and vice-versa...

I suppose there's some quality requirement too? None of my wallpapers have been approved, however there's a lot of worse work around too.

My take on the approval system is that it should be in place for the security of WC (people like Apple, Disney, etc. are notoriously energetic in persuing their IP rights) and for the security of we, the users. DesktopX in particular is very powerful and could be used maliciously if a coder put their mind to it.

I'm less persuaded by the idea of approval being used as a censorship aid for the moral minority. But that's me, I've never been of the mind that children should be shielded from life, just supported when it effects them negatively.

Additionaly, I believe approval should be used to filter out complete rubbish. However, the criteria should be set fairly low to give aspiring skinners/coders a chance to get their work seen and criticized constructively.

The big problem I have is with the lack of a reply if the work is denied for some reason. A polite email should be sent, it should give a very brief description of why the work is unnacceptable and there should be a link to a page that gives a general guide to what's allowed and why submissions are sometimes denied.

It's not good enough to say that this results in people getting nasty emails. So what? I'd hope all the admins are adults and know how to use their delete key, followed by blocking the email address and banning the offender from WC. If it's really such a problem use a centralized submissions address and keep your admin addresses out of it.

I should say that I've not yet submitted anything, but hope to soon.

regards, Jerry

Ah.....Band-aids for the molested child.   Yes, that's going to work.

Responsible adults protect their children before the event, not after.

JerryHat...If you are over 21 perhaps I can send you some of the more 'choice' emails to practise your 'delete' skills on.

The admins ARE adults.....and they are all also Volunteers who do not deserve what passes for 'complaint' in those emails.

I personally have thick skin but my blood would boil at the thought that those Admins who happen also to be women would be on the receiving end of some of what I've had.  For me, it comes with the territory, for my fellow admins I'd prefer it didn't happen to any of them.

That is all....

"Life" is not "Fair" ... and "S**t" happens
Unless I have read the gudelines incorrectly, "Wallpapers" are meant to be a "Background" image, not a dominant feature that overwhelms one's desktop.

Have many children been molested via a wallpaper or icon?

As for the emails, they're just words and the words of idiots. I'm well over 21 and you're welcome to send anything - but there's not a lot I haven't seen and doubt if you could change my mind.

The children are molested by creeps that view the disgusting Wallpapers and Videos on the internet, and WC will not allow anything on it's site that can insight a creep into doing anything that would harm children.

God forbid anything should happen to your children due to a creep viewing indecent material found on WC's website, and getting excited over that material.

If you have no concern for children whatsoever, then I pity you.

WC is bound by law to disallow the display of certain types of things - which I won't even mention - anything else outside of those things is deeply unlikely to provoke anyone to do anything to a child. The fact that the Admins must deny/remove such things wasn't worth mentioning.
