That's a real bummer. Honz was/is one of my favorite skin authors out there. He had a real gift for being able to put together elegant and clean art.

This is sad indeed. Honz talent and contribution will be missed.
I think there's a time in everyone's life where we loose enthusiasm and get discouraged. I hope this is nothing more than a phase in Honz life and that he soon gets the enthusiasm back and continue his great work

Before I got a little active myself I watched the skinning community for some time and I must say that I see too many of my 'idols' go... Thredz, Tech13, Bronze, ManyK, Crumbut, Dangeruss (somewhat) and now Honz...

It's sad to see Honz go. And yes c242, a lot of great ones are gone, but luckily there are still some of the old school going strong and a lot of new ones that are doing a great job right now.

Well, I've "Retired" before as well.... and then look what happened. Hopefully something like this will happen to Honz as well. It takes time, though.

Of course, I didn't want to understate the great new ones and the old school ones still here.

Skinners come and go. It's the nature of a community. I miss the days when sphere, $teven, misery, iST (Jake) skinned. But there will always be "new blood" to fill in. Actually it feels like a totally different community since the #skinnerz and skinz.org days. Sort of miss that feeling. Oh my was the message board at Skinz fun. What wonderful flame wars we had. One day its flaming the next day they are your best friends. The endless ragging on Kodman for those skins he would put out once a day haha. Beautiful Lorenela contributing her works. The days of K-jofol, sonique and Winamp 2. Those were fun times. Now you go to skinz and it's like an interactive billboard with a few skins thrown in. No offense to the new owners, i realize they need to pay bills. On-topic i never really dug too much of honz's work but i appreciate his contributions nonetheless and i'm sorry for the community's loss by him leaving.

I can't leave out vendicator. He's missed too. And Bronze. You know a lot of you won't know who Sphere was. He was this kid that really pushed the pixels. A lot of his work he did pixel by pixel. When i was running SkinWekz for ByteAudio we hired him to do a winamp 2 skin for us. I want to show the new people what kind of work he did. Here is a screen shot of the skin: http://www.theskinsfactory.com/tsf-temp/ByteMe.jpg

He originally wanted to put a his logo on it which was a syringe... ummm no. So we compromised and called "ByteMe" since it was for ByteAudio.com

TSF says it well in #15...

Let's hope Honz's departure is but temporary.  Heritage is important to us all...

We all have to quit/give up at some point, everytime its a loss to (the so called) The Community. Some cry, some dont, thats the way life goes.
Lotsa good memories are dragged out each time it happens, such as TSF has done, reminiscing over the late but great artists frequenting on the (to many) mother of all skinsites Skinz.org. Which btw is undergoing major surgery to be restored to the past glory, from the times when skinning actually was fun!

Loosing skinners like John, truely is a great loss to those that enjoyed his great work! (including yours truely)

but then again...... once a skinner - always a skinner, no one ever really quits.
