The new WinCustomize is here!

Bear with us as there will no doubt be issues that we have to work through over the next couple of weeks. But we hope you like what you see so far.

The new site is designed to be more steamlined for both new users and power users. It also has a lot more content than the previous site and provides a bunch of new ways for users to participate (with more ways to come).

Let us know what you think.  If you're running into performance issues, let us know. That's the part that's the trickiest to resolve since WC has so much traffic (millions of different users per month) that even one bug can cascade mightily.!FROGCARE!

All of the old links do not work, unless "www2" is used in the address. Is it gonna be like this forever or will it come back to only "www"? Please, someone answer this question.

Thanks for the reply. Let's say I want to see all of Frogboy's submissions Link. What I was able to do on the old website, I just clicked on the authors name and then I clicked on the see author's skins link (which doesn't exist now atall, btw. Please put it back there). I'd get a page with all of Frogboy's skins. And the most important thing, it would come up nicely organized, listed in categories, first: WB's, Wallpapers, Logons, Bootskins, Cursors and so on.

Now, thankfully, I have more options to sort someone's works. If I click on "sort by" window I get options like by: author, created, featured skins, updated, downloads overall & today, WC downloads, skin name and rating.

That's where I would like to see an additional option like sort by: gallery. That would come very close to what I was use to see at the old site, despite the fact that you have to go through many pages to do so (which brings me to a suggestion about the number of skins per page as well, five in this instance is too little).

do appreciate the possibility to search through authors' library and the many sorting options I can make based on my interest.

What I miss, thanks the old system, is the option to see and search authors' library sorted by GALLERY. Maybe I missed it, but so far all the skins, from all galleries come out mixed together.

That's very disorganized and hard to see what is what. Bootskin, wallpaper, coorsors, logons? Thank you all for caring, though....


Can you give a specific example of this? If you are on wincustomize.com, we have a gallery bar on the left hand side which lets you select your specific gallery, this does not appear on all pages, but is easily accessed from the home page. Also we do have a gallery tab which gives you a default view of all libraries, and you can click through to your desired library.

One more thing, while you having the same link open. For example the first skin, name: frogboy, doesn't have the old Frogboy for Windows Blinds information available anymore. So the only way to know what's the skin you're looking at, is the small icon on the left. I hope you know what I mean...

Been there..previews for 5 or so of the skins out of 3000+ doesnt quite cut it...when you click to see more its the same deal, no preview images, are they planning on adding these or are they scratched for good?

While it's nice that everything looks all pretty and such, I think all the images it's calling up is placing a bit of too much load on the server. But then again, I wouldn't know about the performance issues the server has in relation to this site.

One thing I think is needed is a minimalistic version of this site... one that doesn't have all the fancy borders and stuff but just the absolute and basic necessities. Can such a 'theme' be implemented? Would it be useful or would it still cost just as much resources as this one now?

Thank you to my friends that pay attention to the real problems and didn't tell just their congrats.
I think this change will be a good way to advance.but if you fix the problems that are now.

I write some points that I see so far :
(please be patient and read all of them)

+ I think except download overall for each skin,you must show the download today for them,like before(under each item).
+ In myskin section,Its required to have the "arrange by type" choice.it helps to see all the categories nearby.
+ I prefer to see all the Items in myskins in one page(like before).Its easier to analyse them.
+ about Rating system,I think it doesn't work properly.I didn't see any changes when I give a high or low rate to a skin.
+ It's very better that we can see all the top downloads and top authors in their pages(like before).they are not clearly available now.and they haven't real numbers now.for example in bootskins top authors section you can see some low numbers like 21 or 17 for top authors.
+ when I update a skin description,It goes to the awaiting or processing section and didn't available in the site for some hours.
It's not required for such small changes.
+ How can I change the Items that I have in my first page.I thought that consist of recent items,but some of my new Items didn't appear there.please add a way to arrange them.
+ please show the top overall authors for each category.I like to know the bootskin or objectdock top overall authors.it cause more competition.
+ you can ask some of the masters in the Icon(like my friends Jairo or mormegil or ...) to create some nice Smilies for the site.the changed items are good but they aren't as impressive as they must be for an art site.and it isn't a complete set yet.(with many thanks to their author that I forget his name right now.)

you can do a poll for some of them.
I like the Wincustomize very much.and I hope to see it more successful.

ok it's getting very annoying !!
i c other people can submit their work
why can't i !!
this is really irritating it didn't work yesterday
it doesn't work today !!
i now prefer the old site....it worked !!
if people couldn't submit their work this site
would not even be here, so this is one of the problems
that should be solved first when you change your site
and second nobody ever answers on the problems people have
with the new site why is that ?! are actual people working
on this site or are the aliens who don't speak english !!

"This was one thing we had to tweak from the old site due to performance page loads. We tried to give a "Big Enough" Preview so our users can get a feel for the skin, also gave the option of enlarging by clicking on the image if they wanted to see the screenshot in full effect."

Thank you for the explanation, but I was looking for some direction as to what resolution should be uploaded to avoid the squishing effect.


I use 1280x1024 on my desktop, and it has never shown up as a "square" desktop after uploading to the old site. My only upload to this new site is square and the contents are distorted.


Could you please let me know what resolution would work for an upload to keep the preview and close-up in a rectangle?

Hello Corky, the square image scaling effect is a bug in our upload script. We will be working on this issue today. Sorry for the inconvience.

As I said earlier.....The site is looking great. I like the changes.

The site is taking me approximately 60 to 90 seconds to load. I have a 5000K download connection and an 800 upload.(Very Quick Connection) This site is taking a very long time...

Just to let you know.

Hi, guys I know everyone has full hands right now, but you should really, really select someone to only answer all of these comments. Otherwise it's pointless to write something here.

Secondly, what happened to all the links associated with skins? They don't work anymore. NONE.
