The problems of adding a hard drive to Start11 in the Windows 10-style start menu

You can add HDDs to Start11 (Windows 10-style), but it's a bit messy.

Right-click an HDD in File Explorer and there is no option to add it to Start11. (I'm using the full context menu.)

You can pin it to the regular Start and then it will Show up in Start11 and it will be fully functional.

But, it will also be added to the app list in Start11.

If you remove the HDD from vanilla Start then it disappears from the Start11 grid, but it remains in the app list, from which it cannot be removed.

From the app list you can re-pin it to Start11's grid.

You cannot add a hard drive by using the pin folder function.

The only real problems are that garbage is left in the app list (wouldn't it be nice to be able to sort it and add folders?) and that hard drives must be added in an indirect fashion.

I would suggest It would be better if:

You could right-click an HDD in file explorer and pin it to Start11 or pin it as a folder by right-clicking the icon grid.

You could remove items from the app list, by right-clicking them (and selecting to remove).

Icons could be on the grid without being in the app list.

Pinned folders are also left as unremovable trash in the app list if you unpin them.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried this? Right click on C drive, create shortcut. The shortcut will be on your desktop. Right click on that icon and pin to Start11. That should work. Do note that the shortcuts does not need to be on desktop. You can create a special folder and store those shortcuts in there.

Thanks

That way it doesn't show up in vanilla start, but I still get the unmovable trash in the app list. (I don't have to keep the shortcut for it to work, btw.)
The problem wasn't to get it to work, but the roundabout ways to achieve it and the garbage left behind. This workaround is about as good or bad as the one I described above.

No, sorry, the trash items were messing with me.
Doing it from the shortcut seems to work without adding it to the app list, and I don't have to keep the shortcut (it seems).

Now I'll just find a way to uninstall and delete all the settings and start over, using that workaround. Or maybe I can just edit "%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\".
