Always the same problem:

With 2 monitores (one HDMI and one DP) and 1 fences in the second one and three in the main one always the fences in the second one are moving to the main one when I turn on the monitors. I can't leave them pinned in place I alredy tried everything: Win 10 - Win 11. Fences 3 - Fences 4. A lot of settings.

Nothing fixes it.

Hello.  At random, the desktop icons will not respond to the mouse.  Click twice to hide doesn't seem to work, but it will after several attempts.  The mouse connection/battery have been checked and rechecked and everything works as it should if I disable Fences.

Also, again at random, the screens will begin to flash and go white.  When this happens the machine usually closes any open applications and returns to the main menu or the primary application that was open at the time.  There is no rhyme or reason or pattern that I can see, but if I turn off Fences it never happens.  There is never an error message.

Fences version  4.0.7.2 has been installed, removed and reinstalled multiple times.  My configuration is:

WIN 11 Home ver 21H2  OS Build 22000.918

11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11600KF @ 3.90GHz   3.91 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060  - 4 monitors

I don't think I'm forgetting anything.

Fences 4 introduces (or re-enables; I'm not sure if this was a thing in Fences 3) a default keyboard shortcut of Win + Space for "Access Fences instantly with hotkeys." This conflicts with Windows 10/11's shortcut for switching keyboard layout. For people who regularly use multiple keyboard layouts (I use English US and Japanese IME, for example), this shortcut is extremely important. After installing Fences 4, I suddenly found myself unable to switch keyboard layouts using the shortcut. It wasn't immediately obvious that anything was happening, since pressing Win + Space when the desktop/fences are already visible doesn't have any visible effect. I eventually figured out that it was due to the recent Fences update, found the shortcut, and disabled it, but I could see this being extremely annoying if you don't realize it right away.

Thanks for the tipp on the keyboard issue.  I was hoping that was the problem but I am afraid it can't be since neither option is selected in the HOTKEYS section of Fences.  I did notice something that I hadn't realized before.  The white screens a re the result of me striking the mouse twice to bring up the desktop.  It will happen twice, and on the third attempt the screens will clear and the desktop will reappear.

Odd......  maybe I need to turn off the setting for automating under quick hide.?

This trash program can't detect the difference between 1080x1920 and 1920x1080. For the app is the same.

Ahhh a new issue.  I thought he was replying to me.  So, Basj, any idea why I keep getting this white screen flicker?  Happens every time I turn on FENCES.

Hi, I am a new user. My team requested this tool, and love it. We had originally purchased Fences 3, but renewed this year and want to install Fences 4. However, I am requesting my IT team to create a package that we can just install. My IT team is asking whether or not there is an MSI file for a method for silent or remote install package that we can use to deploy the software to all of our users.  I had found a thread for this on Fences 3.08, but nothing so far in Fences 4. Please advise.  Thank you so much in advance for your help.

I moved to a new install of Windows, which is now 11. And so I've also upgraded my fences license to version 4 and installed it.

Unfortunately windows explorer becomes very slow on startup (missing icons on desktop tile, no response on clicks) until it actually crashes.
And I mean even the task bar is stuck after a little while.

If it takes longer to crash, you can just try to double click an empty portion of the desk (i.e. to hide icons) and it will certainly crash (whole desktop greyed out, and explorer being restarted after a while.

That's a real big issue for me as I'm relying on this product from a very very long time, for some productivity.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

I had an issue last time I tried to update to 4.07 - my screen resolution was forced into 1024x768 resolution instead of the native 1920x1080. I'm running Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

This has happened a few times with some other software updates, but the only way I could fix it was to uninstall Fences. Everything went back to normal, I tried some competing products to replace it and the rest are all garbage. So I reinstalled 4.0.0.3 and life is (mostly) good even without the option to lock my fences. Of course, I'm being badgered to update again to 4.07 but I suspect if I do, I'll be back to giant unusable icons.

One: is there a way to disable updates, or choose any minor update before 4.07 and two: has this issue even been brought up or addressed by anyone else?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I am on Windows 10 too but I don't have your problem on Fences V4.0.7.2. Possible there's conflict with some other software in your system. Have you tried cleanboot [Link]?

One: Yes, to disable update check use this guide:

https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#disableupdate

two: I never see another report similar to what you state above. "my screen resolution was forced into 1024x768 resolution instead of the native 1920x1080."

Thanks

Thank you so much for the disable script. I'll look into the cleanboot as long as I don't have to wipe out all other installs and start from scratch. That's not worth it.

The area with the glass effect seems to be 1920x1080 of 1st monitor but it starts at the wrong corner. Here is an image representative of the setup and the issue.

Windows 10

Fences 4.0.7.3

1st on hdmi 1920x1080

2nd on vga 768x1366

both plugged to intel graphics 4600 onboard card

Fences 4.0.7.2 cannot move icons. Using Windows 10.

No one seems to know what to do to fix. Getting no answers.

Hi, this is a follow up for the same issue:

unfortunately while the hint to purge and reinstall did work for some time, I ended with the same issue re-appearing after a while.

I then tried to revert to the latest 3.x version (from which I upgraded thinking for a better Win11 support) and it seems to work better.

With version 3 I still have some explorer freezes on login, especially on the actual task bar, but I can recover with a restart. Better than nothing.

Also tried to install START11 to see what happens, but I have the same issue. Anyway I kept START11 for its functionalities.

One important thing to know is how I'm using Windows: since I use it for both work and home (who doesn't anyway), I have 2 separated accounts, 1 local offline account whici is then connected to the company office 365 account (Microsoft doesn't allow to login directly with my company account) and 1 personal/online microsoft account with an office 365 subscription.

So what happens is that I often have 2 different users concurrently logged in, and I switch between the two when needed.

I have a suspect that Fences is working bad only when I'm already logged-in on one account and I'm accessing the second one.

So the question would be if Fences is fully tested under such conditions (dual concurrent users logged in).

Thanks for help,

max

Hello,

On the "Fences 4 1.0 Release Issue Report Thread" (Reply #42) from March 22, 2022

Sean Drohan commented:

"I was able to reproduce this somewhat... What was noticed is that a Fence would not be affected by the translucent affect if it was on the main monitor but another fence, on another monitor would. However, if I made the other monitor the ‘Main’ one, both worked…

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2022-03-22_12-51-05.mp4

Internal Ref: FEN-127".

I still have this problem with Fences 4.0.7.2. do we know how to solve this translucent background inconsistency with a multi-monitor setup?

Thanks

I have issues with Fences. I upgraded 15min ago to 4.0.7.2. It keeps crashing explorer. After some time, Fences will disable itself. Then windows is working normally but without Fences.

My desktop is a mess now with icons.
