Managing Taskbar Problem - Something else managing it?

Hi,

I go into Stardock Start11 Config and for the Taskbar I'm told:

"You already have something else managing your taskbar buttons so this cannot be enabled until that is disabled"

Thing is, I don't have anything else managing my taskbar. Unless, it's the previous version of Stardock? Or Window11 itself?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Which version of Start11 are you using and which version of Windows 11?

The only time I have seen that message is if a program such as explorerpatcher or some other taskbar enhancer (i.e translucent TB / other windows store taskbar enhancers) is installed. If that is not the case with you I would try uninstalling start 11, rebooting and then installing the latest version of start 11 here link

Thanks folks. Will do.

But wouldn't surprise me if it's a matter of conflicting versions with the older one not having been completely removed when the newer one was installed.

Not the viewpoint of a programmer, which I am not. But one who's dealt repeatedly with screwy situations like this.

I think you may be correct. There have been many versions of start 11 so it would not surprise me if an older version is what was interfering. I hope you were able to get it fixed.

Well, took me awhile to get around to following up on this.

I removed Start11 and reinstalled. Still the same problem.

Can't find the other program which 'MIGHT' be controlling things. The only thing that I can think of is Winaero which I've already removed. 'and even that didn't have any settings in place for controlling anything.

Can you post a screenshot showing what your taskbar looks like?

So I guess there's no solution?

The screenshot shows the Windows 10 taskbar so Start11 is correct.

Something on your computer has modified the OS to make that happen.  Are you sure you have not used a setting to force this in Winaero or installed explorerpatcher?

You've my apologies.

Turns out, it was that which you've mentioned, ExplorerPatcher.

Uninstalled it and it's as I suppose it should be.

Thank you.

Now that I see what this is really like, sans the other app, I've uninstalled it.

Not for me at the moment and appears a tad bit on the buggy side.

Will re-approach when I've got the time to waste.

Your taskbar in that screenshot is clearly not the Windows 11 one.

That is why the feature is disabled.  You have something installed which has changed the taskbar.

The taskbar is the star11 taskbar as i installed it and used one of the themes installed in it however the only thing which is not working is the thing i bought this application for which is ungrouping the taskbar open items :(

I rebooted my laptop today; the TaskBar was blank and Start11 had the same message. I'm on v1.25.

I don't have "ExplorerPatcher" installed. I am on the beta track of Win 11 (22H2, build 22622.575) so i wonder if that has anything to do with it. Does PowerToys ever interfere with Start11?

I did Malwarebytes and Defender scans just in case and neither found anything.

But...

What fixed it for me was restarting the Explorer.exe process via TaskManager. Strange.

That is not the Start11 taskbar on Windows 11.  Neither is it the Windows 11 taskbar.  This is why Start11 will not enable that feature.

If the taskbar is blank for some reason Start11 will be unable to detect if the taskbar is correct as explorer isn't loaded up fully for some reason.

PowerToys shouldn't impact Start11 but the use of Insider releases of Windows 11 is highly likely (with or without Start11) to have issues on occasion as those builds are known to be buggy.

Unless you have good reason to use Insider releases I would urge against using them in general.

I suspect explorer glitched for some reason hence fixing it on a restart of explorer.

Guy, I had the same problem, and if you have the default taskbar in Win11 set to push icons to the side (instead of the middle), then Start11 will give you this error. I just changed the default windows 11 taskbar behavior back to the middle, and this error went away.
