Error Message

New Installation

Just installed the Start11 for the Windows 10 desktop and when I seek to pin an app to the task bar I get the following error message. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item."

Can you help?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system

  1. Windows 10 version numbers. You can use Windows own Winver.exe to get Windows full version numbers.
  2. You see this error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." when you trying "pin to taskbar" on all and any application?
  3. More details on what steps you use to pin application to taskbar?

Thanks

 Microsoft Windows

Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.1466)

The error message mentioned will show up at various times seemingly for no reason, browsing the internet with Microsoft Edge, playing a game loaded on my laptop, or just simply opening up Word files to view. Since I loaded the Stardock Windows 11 desktop for Windows 10 this error message pops up frequently. Which is sad, as I do like the desktop. I loaded windows 11 on this machine but the processor speed was simply inadequate to run programs. Browsing on the internet was basically impossible under the windows 11. I have two file folders that remain on my desktop that are now pinned to the start menu, but if I remove those 2 file folders from the desktop after they have been pinned to the start menu to the recycle bin the file folders pinned then are empty. I have to restore them to the desktop to make them functional. The idea is to have a clean desktop and then bring up the start menu or click from programs listed center bottom. Everytime I click  one of the two file folders on the desktop the error message shows up. I hope you are not as confused as I am. I need things easy.

Well, I am confuse, you actually on Windows 10 or Windows 11? If you currently on Windows 10, but you mentioned you was having problem on Windows 11. If you revert back to Windows 10, did you fresh install Windows 10 or something else was done.

Thank you,

Yes, the reason I looked for a windows 11 desktop was because I installed windows 11 and was not able to keep it as my machine simply could not execute. The process of reverting back to Windows 10 was simple and I ran it for several days with no difficulty. I then did a search for the Windows 11 desktop as I thought that would be something other Windows 10 users would like to have even if their system were not capable of running 11. Anyway, if it is not an easy fix, I will simply uninstall the desktop and go back to the original windows 10 desktop.

Thank you for your help.

I think the best fix is to do a new fresh install.
