Laptops: Battery life

Be very cautious,Lord.I had the same mindset as you by keeping my Sony Vaio plugged in just because I was near an outlet.Big mistake.Within a year I was buying a new battery-450.00-burn me Sony Dollars, for lack of conditioning my battery.And if you really want to take it from 100% to less than 20% very quickly just plug Anything into the USB.From the sounds of your first post yer battery may already be done.Have you checked lately.Defiantly keep your battery healthy.

First off I wouldn't worry about keeping it connected all the time, the batteries used in laptops of recent years hold up pretty good. As for the drop you notice when you disconnect it from the adapter, well thats normal. You see, when you have it connected the computer is provided with optimum power to all its resources. When you detach the cord though, it switches over to battery power and first and foremost the battery, no matter how topped off, will never deliver 100%. But most importantly, the computer takes measures to try and conserve as much power as possible so that it can stay on for a long period of time. That little be you hear is the computer letting you know that it is switching over to battery and you are now borrowed time

mine runs 2.5 hours from full chrge to sleep mode when it is ready to die.

though it is a newer battery from a T30 used in a T22...

makes a big difference because I run a second 20 gig drive and a wireless nic at all times.

oh and you should let it run down now and then and fully charge also

Yes, I did neglect to include that didn't I. That does promote longer life!

Yeah. I do that in least once a month. My laptop, a desktop replacement type laptop, has a shorter battery life of 2 hours but it still lasts that long after 7 months.
