Fences Running Slowly

No Apparent Solution

I have read a number of posts concerning Fences running slowly.  They can generally be summed up as
Fences running slowly,
run the very old purge routine and reinstall,
        did that, no improvement,
hmmm - nobody else has that issue,
                   end of discussion.

I too have a slowness, slowing problem.  I am on Win 10, Fences 3 - both totally updated.  I am running nowhere near the capacity of RAM, CPU, Disk.  I don't want to try any purge/re-install until I understand if the purge destroys the Fences' definitions.  I have way too many fences to redefine from scratch.

so, two questions:

1. How do I remove and reinstall Fences while protecting my layout definitions?

2. Is there some nominal number of Fences - Portals - Icons at which Fences' operation slows down?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.

  1. From what I know, purge and reinstall steps do not delete your snapshots. But just to be safe, you can backup your snapshot layout using this guide : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots
  2. There is no official limit announced that I know off, but if you have Portal Fences that link to network drive it might have slow respond on updating.

As for your issue, may I know, few more information on it.

  • Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.
  • Single or dual GPU system?
  • Single or multiple Monitor/s system. And Information on it, such as Resolutions, Scaling and connection type.
  • Any other information that might help.

Thanks
