Disappearing fences

I am familiar with double clicking to hide fences and to bring them back.  This has nothing to do with that.

I work from home using a VPN into my office.  I have 3 monitors at home and 3 monitors at work.  When I log into work, sometime the fences are messed - like all on one screen, so I will drag them to another screen.  Today and on other multiple prior occasions, when I drag a fence, all of the other fences disappear.  When I get to work, the fence that I dragged is missing entirely from the desktop and all of the other fences appear on screen number one, all overlapped.

When I go to the C:\users\myusername\desktop, shortcuts to folders within the missing fence  are there, but the shortcuts to the programs that I had in the fence are not. Neither the folder short cuts nor the program shortcuts show on the desktop either.

I think I have had this happen too when I was just working at the office and not on a VPN, but it has been a long time ago that it happened.

I I recreate the short cut it names it as a second occurrence by giving it a name with (2) at the end of it.  So, the computer knows it is there, I just cant see it. 

It is pretty frustrating to have everything just disappear.
