Fences keeps highlighted object on desktop from before

Every time I click over to an app, game, etc., where my desktop is not the focus anymore, Fences remembers what icon I had highlighted before and then if I click back onto the desktop onto another icon, both are now highlighted. Then if I go to drag the thing I just clicked it drags the old thing with it. It is very annoying and only started happening with fences. Is there any way to stop that from happening? I've accidentally deleted so many things from dragging one thing without realizing the icon from forever ago was still highlighted.
