[SOLVED] Remember recent programs and adds them to start menu when I do not have recent items check nor displayed as link or menu

Would like to NOT remember recent items - whether they be documents or applications

Hi,

EDITED; After further testing, just now, I realize it is NOT remembering any applications I have pinned to the start 10 menu. It only remembers applications I do not have pinned to the start 10 menu.

I kinda of have the opposite problem of this guy: https://forums.stardock.com/501392/recent-items-in-start-menu

Under Start10 configuration, within the Style ->configure section I have "Show recently used applications" UN-checked

- this is not working properly

Under Which shortcuts do you want on the right hand side I have recent items set to "don't display this item".

- this is working properly

When I click my start 10 menu button, in the "pinned" section it shows my pinned applications. Directly under that is a horizontal separator creatin another section in which all of my most recent applications are currently being remembered and placed there regardless of how many times i check/UN-check the "Show recently used applications" box.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this as it is currently driving me batty:-)

Thanks,

John

HI,

Further testing revealed that if someone opens start 10 configuration, then clicks to highlight Style, then choose Modern Style and selects "modern theme - Windows 10 inspired look" then their recently opened applications, that are not pinned to their start 10 menu, will be remembered and displayed just below the pinned applications on the start 10 menu even if "show recently used applications" under style->configure is not checked / selected.

However, if someone chooses "Modern theme without icon" then the start 10 menu will act as expected when "show recently used applications" under style->configure is not checked / selected.

Above is the ONLY difference I see between the two choices.

This MAY be what the Dev's intended - I do not know.

BUT I for one definitely consider it a bug or deceptive wording in the options choices.

End of Yodabug's quote

That is very strange as the option only changes one flag internally (hides the user icon).

A quick test here isn't showing a problem either.  Disabling the show recent apps option hides them from the Win7 look and modern looks.

If you change modes back does the list reappear?

Hi,

I investigated a bit further, and this is looking like it has nothing to do with the Start10 application.

I want to keep posting my results here, if only as an example to non-technical people of what can occur with a program and interactions with different operating system versions and other programs that have nothing to do with the program itself. If anyone can follow that?

I see a lot of people posting things like Start10 did this, and start10 did that, and in most cases start10 did nothing more than reside on their PC and do exactly what it is supposed to do and is/was not the cause of whatever issue they are/were complaining about.

My own personal laptop is still running Windows 1909. I just logged onto it to upgrade to 2004, which seems fairly stable so I'll do it on this device also.

I am running the most recent version of start10 - 1.95 - on the laptop.

I can choose whatever start10 theme with the modern style I like on the laptop (without icon or windows inspired 10 looked) and the most recently used application are NOT remembered as per my settings, just like it should be.

The issue seems to have arisen due to a change in Windows 10 from 1909 to 2004.

I will upgrade my laptop to 2004 and when I am finished, will test it again and see if this is true or not as , it could be a symptom of any other 3rd party software I run on the laptop. I mean, at this point, who knows right?
