Different taskbar is not remembered at reboot.

I use a modified version of Precision (Windows 7 substyle) with the taskbar being a modified version of downloaded Win Retro with WB 10.84 on Windows 10 pro 1909.

Each time I reboot, Settings are back to use the taskbar of the current style.

What can I do to make it stick? Where is this setting saved? A file, a registry entry?

Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. The simplest way to set different taskbar style is by setting. Please refer to below desktop.

Yes, thanks, it's what I did.

But the setting does not stick. It's goes back to same as style after a reboot.

I found out that this sets this registry value:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\WindowBlinds\WB5.ini\WBLiteFX]
"OverrideXP"="1"

After a reboot, it goes back to "0"

I used the following process:

    Run gpedit.msc.
Go to computer Configuration -> Windows Setting -> Scripts(Startup/shutdown)
Go to Startup properties then you will get the new windows.
Now add the program that you want to run before login.

to run a c++ program I wrote to set it to 1.

I can't reboot my server at the moment, too complicated. Next time I do, I'll post here is this works.

Meantime, if you have an idea...

My little trick to change the registry worked at the first reboot, but at the same time the taskbar was below the screen (cropped) until I  clicked with the mouse to restart the process. This is a problem I have sometimes, so not related.

WB started with the correct taskbar, but a few of the startup programs did not start.

I rebooted, and  this time the trick did not work, I did  not get my modified taskbar, but every startup program started.

So, this is a bug I have no solution for. I have to change the settings at each boot to get a taskbar which is not the style taskbar.

I can't recreate your issue. I don't really stick with different taskbar like you do, but I did try to restart/reboot my system couple of times and still the setting sticked. Taskbar sticked to "Win Retro". Never need to do any registry edit. I believe there are something blocking Windowblinds from doing its job in your system. Or possibly an AV/security software doing it job in protecting your pc.

Anyway, I have forward your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Noted, thanks.

I use ESET, and I had already had to add it to its HIPS rules Windows blinds to make it work at all.

I added it to the deep behavioral exclusion, although I did not get any popup that it was messing with the registry.

If I look at the registry after making the mod, the good value is set to 1, so WB was allowed to modify it.

Why it reverts to 0 after a reboot is really weird.

It started to work, having the good taskbar at boot.

But the windows did not display their caption! I un-installed and res-install WB, activating it again, it did not help, still no captions on the top border of the windows.

I have an automatic system image created every night by Macrium Reflect, so I restored yesterday system: same thing!!!

I installed a new software installed today that was not in the backup that made the system the reboot, this time everything was normal.

Finally I found out that to have captions, I have to start first with the regular taskbar, and then change it manually.

I'm starting to be really tired by all the time lost.
