Not sure what to make of this, any ideas?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Would like to know more on your system.
1) Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full Windows version.
2) Your CPU type : Intel, AMD or ARM.
3) Windowblinds version you trying to install.

Latest version of windowblinds as far as I can tell, installing via object desktop application
Need information you AntiVirus or Security software that is running in the background.

Please try download directly from your account. https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products
Uninstall the old install if its available, and reinstall using the new one you just download.
Try that and report back.

myaccount/products only shows object desktop, presumably because I purchased the package. Is there anywhere I can get authorised to download windowblinds on its own?
Yes you can, if your Object Desktop subscription still active your download should appear there too.
