Cursor FX4 change cursor colors

Well, I've been using CursorFX for so long I've forgotten how I used to change cursor colors, and I have one cursor in CursorFX4 I like that has a  dark grey on black select tab cursor I can't see easily on dark backgrounds. I used to change colors all the time in files, but I can't remember how I did this and there's no documentation for new version. Please refresh my memory. :)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I do believe that totally gray icons can't be recolor in CursorFX since the color slider only adjust the hue of it. As example, my "Fold" cursor won't change at all with moving the hue sliders.

Just to test it out what is the name of the cursor you mentioned above?

Thanks

Hi. I also found that hue only effects some cursors. The cursor set in question is Glyx, which has a number of cursors with color except for the one in question, which is Hand.  In the previous version of CursorFX I could create different color versions of cursor sets, but I don't remember how I went about it. If I could copy and paste within CursorFX4 I could probably resolve the issue.

Thanks for quick reply to my post.

My experience has been that only already-colorized bits of cursor images can be changed.  Any part that is gray stays gray.  So replacing the particular cursor is probably your only option.  Not sure myself how to do that.

Is there an editor for opening up cursors or will renaming the file extension to something else work?

I'm thinking I might try copying the cursor (Hand) in question and altering colors in Photoshop, but then I'd still have to replace original with revised one. The theme editor doesn't seem ideal for this.

Cheers

Gray, black and white do not recolor.

I have looked at this editor and it doesn't appear to provide a means — unless I've missed it — to replace an existing icon with the same one that has a different color — meaning screen captured, recolored in PS and then copied over the existing one in editor. I tried simply copying one cursor in the set onto another in the same cursor set and it didn't work, so I'm assuming my plan won't either. Having used SkinStudio, I would be nice to have a version for CursorFX4, but without that I don't see a way to actually modify existing cursor but instead would have to create one from scratch...I think.

Okay, I figured it out. I took screen capture of another cursor, opened it in PS, selected background and then inverse, changed colors and saved it to same name as cursor I'm replacing, copied this to Theme folder in CursorFX folder and then imported it within editor with cursor to be replaced highlighted, then save. Finally, apply cursor again to change to take effect. Done!

I notice that when re-applying settings, changes such as brightness and size are lost as applying cursor starts with default setting.

Do you mean if you change cursors, and then change back, it loses the prior settings?  If this is what you mean, it is normal.  Always been that way.

I wasn't aware of resetting option parameters because I haven't made a habit of changing cursors for many years and forgot the option changes weren't sticky. Minor, really, given how trivial it is to make changes — brightness and size being the two I use the most. Prior resetting is both for change from one cursor to a different one and simply applying the current cursor again.

This app is probably my favorite Stardock utility (along with WindowBlinds) because the cursor is so fundamental to a graphic interface...along with the interface itself.

My only remaining problem is cursors that have color changed and when imported to replace original only display as a narrow vertical slice of the full graphic. Problem is only with cursors having animation, not cursors without animation. Unfortunately, CursorFX Theme "Editor" offers little value beyond copying and pasting cursor graphics, with no access to png files, scripts and other features, and file format for CursorFX files is binary, also preventing customization. This should have been fixed in update from 2.x to 4.x.
