Folder portal arranging icons - some portals will some won't

Hi there,

After setting up a bunch of folder portals on my desktop I realised that I couldn't arrange the icons like with normal fences. The pop-up message told me so.

But I can with some of them. I have 2 folder portals in which I can arrange the icons how I want. The rest won't allow me to do it.

I've duplicated these folder portals in multiple desktops and they continually allow me to arrange icons. But all the other ones I make won't.

I can't find any options in fences that shows this feature.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks,

J

PS: Yes, I'm 100% sure they're folder portals and not normal fences.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need more information.

1) Windows version. Please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.

2) Fences version.

3) And please post a video showing us the Portal Fences can or cannot be sort. From my short testing time, you cannot arrange icons in Portal Fences if your view is in List and List (Large) modes. I can arrange in other modes.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply :) information you requested:

1) Microsoft Windows Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.720)

2) Fences 3.0.9.11

3) Link to video showing what I'm talking about:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/cl0ml3arv93phat/Folder%20Portal%20Fences%20Icon%20Sorting.mp4?dl=0

I've done some experimenting and it's just these 2 folders in this particular subsdiectory that do this. I can't get any other folders anywhere to do it. Even if I make a folder portal that has the icon shifting and then change the diectory to one that doesn't. It seems to be dependant on the directory itself. I made another video showing this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4vxvmdnfurdgok/Folder%20Portal%20Fences%20Icon%20Sorting%202.mp4?dl=0

It must be some sort of option or preference setting of the directory itself but i can't figure out what.

Let me know if there's anything else you need or would like me to try anything.

Thanks,

James

Hello,

I believe that is under Windows 10 control. Have you tried this walkaround : https://windowsreport.com/disable-auto-arrange-folders-windows-10/

Thank you,

Hi Basj,

After following the instructions in the link I can confirm that all folders can have their icons sorted as in the videos I posted here.

Thanks very much for your help :)
