Doesn't search when editing the beginning of the search string

Say I want to open Firefox. I press the win key and begin typing, but make a mistake, e.g. "ffire". I press Home and Delete the first letter, leaving "fire". But the search doesn't happen at this point - the results show whatever they were showing before the Delete press. I have to press End and either type one more letter or remove a letter with Backspace for it to trigger the search.
