Fences activation caused loss of my entire browsing history.
I also lost my Chrome tabs and pinned tabs.
This morning I booted my Win 10 laptop and discovered that the Fences trial I was testing had stopped working and all the (over 200) icons I had classified into several "Fence windows" were sitting on my desktop in layers several icons deep where the Fence windows containing them had been previously situated. I also, at some point – I can’t remember exactly when, saw a message telling me that my Fences trial period was up!
My computer took an unusually long time to boot - presumably because of the ensuing mess of icons that had suddenly been dumped on top of each other on my desktop. I couldn't do anything about it and just had to wait until there was some response to my keyboard and mouse. Eventually I managed to get Chrome on the screen (from my task bar pinned link) and it was then that I noticed that all my Chrome tabs had disappeared; including my approximately 10-15 pinned tabs. I immediately went to my Chrome History to "recover my recently closed tabs" and then I discovered that my ENTIRE CHROME HISTORY had disappeared! I tried all I knew to find a way to recover the tabs but, after a long internet search for advice on any other possible recovery method, I had to admit defeat.
I went to the Stardock web site, purchased an activation key and got Fences working again, but I have now lost all my Chrome history and have to start lots of projects again, from scratch.
I am gutted!
I am not a newbie to computers as I have been using them for over 35 years, and this is the first time I have experienced the loss of my Chrome history through a booting problem caused by a desktop "traffic jam".
Why can't Stardock send people who are trialling their software a timely reminder that the program will stop operating (a couple of days before it actually happens) thus giving them a chance to purchase the activation key before the program stops operating?
As I said, I AM GUTTED!
If anybody can help with the lost tabs/history problem, I would be very grateful.
