The translucent effect will default to the background instead overlaying on top of wallpaper engine. Is there a way around this?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I am not using Wallpaper Engine so I can't confirm your finding. But it is possible. The only thing to try is to disable Fences "Translucent Fence background" (Fences Configuration -> Color & Appearance -> Additional Tweaks)

For the record, I have fences on my laptop and Wallpaper Engine and they work flawlessly together for me. YMMV.
