Windows Snap Crash with Fences

Tried finding another instance of this in the forum before posting, but I wasn't able to.  I can't imagine I'm the only one who's experiencing this though.  The Windows Snap feature does not work with Fences enabled.  I'm positive that Fences is the culprit, because when I disable Fences, Windows Snap works perfectly.  I would really like to be able to use Windows Snap at the same time as Fences.  I upgraded to the latest version today and verified that Windows Snap still crashes with Fences enabled.  Any idea if there's a fix for this?  Would really hate to disable Fences.  Thanks!

AzDude...thanks for the quick reply.  Here's what I've got:

Win 10 1709 (OS Build 16299.1087)...this is my work laptop, so I have no control over the OS version unfortunately.

Fences 3.09  Not sure about 3.09.11...I have the latest version as far as I know.  I just downloaded it a few days ago.

The lack of traction on this is worrisome :(.  Was really hoping there was an easy fix for this.  I may have to let Fences go.  I use Windows snap that frequently!

Unfortunately, this didn't work.  I ran the batch file and rebooted.  Reinstalled...and rebooted again.  I checked the application to ensure that the latest version is installed, and the app confirmed that it is.  I'm stumped!

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I have no issue with windows 10 Snap on my pc while running Fences. But I am on Windows 10 V1809 Build 17763.437. That said can you try cleanboot to see if there is application conflict, please try these steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#cleanboot

Try it and report back.

Thanks

Only issue with that is that this is a work laptop that's managed by IT.  I'm not going to be able to get to a clean boot, unfortunately.  I'm thinking that until my company upgrades me to a later version of Windows 10, Fences may have to go uninstalled.

Is it possible that your system have Forcepoint / Websense install in it? This security product is known to have compatibility issue with Fences.

Thank you,

That must be it!  Yes...we have this installed.  Is there a method that you're aware of for having our IT group address this?  Or are they tools just incompatible?

To be honest, that is actually encouraging news, that only one feature may be affected with the presence of ForcePoint - usually Fences will not work at all with it installed (Windows Explorer crashes).

That said, are you able to demonstrate snapping working with Fences installed on a non corp PC?

I'll have to try it at home.  I don't use Fences at home, but I'll download my license there and try it.  Really appreciate all of the help on this.  I love Fences...but I also love Windows Snap.

I'm having the same issue too! I have been living with the problem for a few months and finally checked to see if there is a known issue.

I'm running:
Windows 10 1709
Fences 3.0.9.11
Forcepoint / Websense

Thanks,

Mark

Forcepoint / Websense

I am afraid there is nothing we can do to work around what Forcepoint does.

Can you give us a little more detail on what they are doing?

Maybe I can have our IT department push back on them to solve the issue. Fences is one of the applications I recommend to people at my company so I need to make sure it works.

Thanks,

Mark

Just a heads up that I was able to update my windows version to1803 (OS Build 17134.753), and the issue is still present.  I know you said it was an issue with Forcepoint, but I at least wanted to confirm that Fences crashes with a more current version of windows too.

From what we can tell, the app does not like that Fences is part of the Windows Explorer process.  Fences is not alone in doing this, other apps do so I do not suspect we are the only software developer that has reported issues.
