Object Desktop DeskScapes 10 Beta 2 Feedback

Object Desktop DeskScapes 10 Beta 2 Feedback

Hello and thank you for participating in the Object Desktop DeskScapes 10 Beta 2.

Use this thread if you have any issues using the product.  For any, please provide as much of the below as possible:

  • Exact version and build of Windows (winver.exe)
  • Video card / monitor qty (link to dxdiag report, you place on a cloud drive service, would be helpful but not required)
  • Precise steps to reproduce any issue seen
  • Does it always happen or just 'sometimes'
  • Screenshots / video of any issue

Again, thank you for your feedback and participation.

Ok, I have done Clean Boot and both Fences and DeskScapes 10 Beta 2 are working fine together. How do you want me to go about reenabling programs to figure out which one is causing the problem?

Also, I should make note here - I changed the wallpaper to a straight wallpaper, and it works fine with Fences and everything enabled. HOWEVER, the wallpaper disappears and leaves a black screen (i.e., no wallpaper). But the Fences flickering only happens if a DeskScapes video is running.

It might be related to install order.

After updating Start10 to 1.7, I started having issues with the DeskScapes beta. My setup has 3 monitors: 1920x1200, 1440x900, & 1440x900; pre-Start10 update the main monitor (1920x1200) had an animated background and the other two used static images. After updating Start10 to 1.7 and rebooting, the secondary monitors were displaying a still image of the primary monitor's animated background instead of the previously assigned images. Opening "Configure Deskscapes" and attempying to select anything in the application would cause it to become unresponsive.

To troubleshoot I uninstalled Deskscapes (v10 beta 2). After uninstalling Deskscapes and rebooting, I noticed that the Deskscapes folder and it's contents still existing in my program files. By manually purging the Deskscapes directory, rebooting again, reinstalling Deskscapes 10 beta 2, and rebooting again (for safe measure), I was able to use Deskscapes normally again.

Don't know if that helps any but I figured it couldn't hurt to share.

After installing Beta3 the issues I described in Reply 1 remain.  I've been doing the deactivate/uninstall/purge/install routine on all these updates.

But...

After installing Beta3, I created a new Standard user and ran Deskscapes on it.  That new login does not seem to be suffering from the issue.

Not sure what that might mean.

I would rather experiment on a new Admin account but if you are not seeing issues on a new Standard account, it might point to a profile issue or an app that is running on your main but not the Standard or the same with a setting.  I am afraid finding out what that might be would be a process of elimination on your part.  Are you using any other monitor management software (Ultramon, Actual Multiple Monitors, etc)?

None, it's a single monitor.  Pretty sure I've never loaded any either.

Those 2 user logons have been used since the beginning of Win10, it's hard to tell how tangled up they are by now.  It may make sense to just move over to a couple of new logons.  I'd probably wait until after the next semi-annual Win10 overhaul though.

All,

With the release of DeskScapes Beta 3, I am going to retire this Beta 2 thread.  You can post feedback for Beta 3 here:

Tried Beta 3 and got the same thing as Beta 1 and 2. Fences goes bananas and is useless with a video running and the wallpaper blacks out if I use a wallpaper through DeskScapes 10 B3. Is there a way to troubleshoot this without losing the thread. I get so far with someone and then there are other replies that do not pertain and no one answers me. Otherwise, I am done using version 10. Version 8 worked fine on my system.

Sun, while I really believe it is a third party app (and the seemingly successful cleanboot illustrates that), I want you to try turning this off:

Reboot and see if the problem remains.

Ok, I will try that right now... after I uninstall and reinstall...

Ok, that setting does not matter - but the best part of this message is that the final release version which I just installed - no longer has the issue that I had with Fences - with either setting. So whatever changed in that final release apparently cleared up the problem as DeskScapes 10 is now working properly. The computer gods have complied with my wishes. Thanks.
