Any way to use if steam is blocked over firewall

Hi!

I picked up Multiplicity hoping to be able to use my main desktop to do work on my work laptop, but my work laptop blocks steam via McAfee. So I believe I have two issues, one which I can circumvent... kind of.

1) Simply running steam. Because it's blocked by the firewall, steam doesn't stay logged in, or sometimes cannot even login at all. So if I try to use multiplicity (specifically as a primary) it cannot authenticate with steam. So I can slightly circumvent by running windows in safe mode with networking. I can do that then authenticate my install, which is how I installed it in the first place, but I'm not sure if multiplicity is going to ask to authenticate every time I try to use it. If it's not going to when it's set as secondary then great and this point is completely moot, but point 2 is where everything falls apart.

2) I believe because it's using steam to try to connect machines, it's being blocked by McAfee again. Otherwise, maybe the ports are blocked, and I don't know how to change the ports that Multiplicity uses. I can't seem to find any documentation on it.

Hoping someone can help. It surprises me that the application NEEDS to be installed, and used with steam. Would've thought there would be a standalone.

Thanks!

You do not need to auth a Secondary.

Hi.

Sorry I didn't make it clear, my fault. The firewall, and all security is controlled by the company. I.E. I do not have the ability to open ports. Also, it's McAfee's security that is blocking ports, not the windows firewall. That's why I was wondering if there was a different solution. Specifically changing the ports that multiplicity is using. It was suggested to me by someone in the company that multiplicity might be using a port that the company just "assumes" should be blocked, maybe because in the past some other program was using it and they could not allow that port to remain open.

Thanks

There is, and it is documented in the FAQ:

https://forums.stardock.com/486104/multiplicity-support-faq#changeports

However, it is often easier to ask your IT people to open the default MP ports - easier and will not cause problems if, in the future, you have issues and need support - that the ports are default.
