Black screen at Windows startup

Hello,

I'm using Windows 10 Enterprise build 1709, and WindowBlinds 10.74.

At Windows startup it seems like the explorer startup fails. Login proceeds, and then I get a black screen. The only way to get a working environment is to Ctrl-Alt-Del, Task Manager, and choose run to start manually an explorer process.

It is quire annoying, any ideas on how this could get resolved ?

Extra information: User Experience Virtualization (among other stuff) is deployed on my laptop, and I cannot disable it nor change its configuration (corporate laptop).

Thanks for the help !

David.

Is there a reason (corp policy) you are not on the latest build of Windows 10?

Any 3rd party software (that would include us) installed in a corp environment is always at the mercy of the policies in place by said corp.

If at all possible (allowed), please try a clean boot:

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

I used to get the Start Up Black Screens too in build 1803

but since I updated to 1809 NO more Black Screens for me . so far.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the reply. I know I am very much at the mercy of corp policies, so in this case I'm using the corp version of Windows, and am strongly suspecting that this is rather a conflict between WindowBlinds and a piece of corporate software than a bug...

So, for the same reasons, I cannot try the clean boot you are advising.

As I am suspecting a conflict between WindowBlinds and something else at boot time, is there a way to deactivate WindowBlinds at boot time and have it loaded later (eg a .bat file in the Startup folder) ?

Or is there a way to extract logs that could help you pinpoint which software WindowBlinds is colliding with ?

Thanks!

David.

Indeed there is, hold down the CTRL key while booting will keep WB from loading.

Hi Sean,

This works, thanks for the advice ! I'll be able to live with this until, hopefully, an update in Windows, WindowBlinds, or the galaxy of corporate software resolves the issue.

Thanks again

David.
