Primary disconnected

Hi all, this is my first time posting here and I'm desperately in need. I recently got a second PC and a friend told me about Multiplicity and it sounded like the best thing ever to use 2 PC's at once with 1 mouse and keyboard (too good to be true so far for me, sadly) My secondary connects without any issue, but it's the primary (my new PC) that has been disconnected from the beginning. I've read the forums and googled for hours and tried dozens of things, none successful. If I make my old PC the primary, it works flawlessly. The new one, not so much.

I'm willing to give anything a try but to save time I've tried the following with zero change:

-Uninstalling MP from both PC's at the same time

-Uninstalling each individually

-Turning off every bit of virus protection

-Turning off the firewall

-Connecting the PC both wired and wirelessly

-Unloading MP and restarting the PC

I'm honestly running out of hope, I bought MP on Steam if that changes anything. My fate is in all of your hands now lol thanks in advance.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

but it's the primary (my new PC) that has been disconnected from the beginning.

The Primary is not 'disconnected' it's just saying it's not connected to any other PC.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried those steps and no luck.

That FAQ (I wrote it) covers everything known that could be a connection issue:

https://forums.stardock.com/486104/multiplicity-support-faq#connectionissues

While it is vital that ALL is tried, the most common things:

  • One PC is not set to 'Home' or 'Private' and is 'Public' instead.
  • Always test with Ethernet when possible and directly to the router, no other devices in between (powerline network, bridge, etc). Actually go out of your way to disable the wireless adapters when testing.
  • Always kill any VPN connections when testing.
  • Entering in the IP of the Secondary instead of the hostname

Hi Sean and thanks for the very useful info!

As you could tell I was unaware that being "disconnected" just meant not being connected to another PC. This was extremely helpful to me.

Now, I've given all of your options a try and I have good news and bad news.

Good news is I have audio working from the secondary to primary. Bad news is I still have no mouse or keyboard function on the secondary and MP still shows disconnected in the primary's system tray.

Any tips are appreciated!

Thanks again for the help Sean, unfortunately this had no change for me. Still only getting audio.
