Start10 works for a while after boot, but then won't appear when I click Windows button

After boot Start10 works fine, and opens when I click the Windows button, but then after a while, it won't appear when I click the Windows button.

If I right click the Windows button, then I can select "Configure Start10", and open that, but it still don't make the start menu appear when clicking the Windows button.

I have tried stopping all Start10 processes through the Task Manager, but then I can't start them again, neither with "c:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Start10_64.exe" or "...\Start10Svr.exe".

Running:
- Start10, ver. 1.61
- Windows 10, 64 b, UK, with latest updates

Any input about how to fix this problem or how to restart Start10 is appreciated, since it renders Start10 useless.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please check if you have this set to the correct one.

Check that and report back. Thanks

Hi Basj,

Thanks for replying to this.

My setup looks like your for the indicated parts, as you can see in the image at this link (I could not figure how to insert image):

Start10 => Control

The left windows key also makes the Start10 menu appear after reset, so it is not until later that it stops working, and I do not change the Start10 control setting.

Hello,

Suggest you to try the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Make sure to re-download the latest version from your account at Startdock. Install that, reboot and test it.

Report back here.

Thank you,

Hi Basj,

Now I have reinstalled according to the description, and it works, which is usually does after reboot.

So I will give it some time, to see if it breaks again, and last given an update at 2018-09-29.

Best regards,

Hi Basj,

The problem appeared again, so pressing the the left windows key does not show the Start10 menu.

What can I do to debug this issue ?

Is there any way I can restart Start10, without rebooting the PC, since that is pretty annoying.

Best regards,

Hi AzDude,

Right after boot, left windows key also opens Start10 menu, and the right windows key opens windows start menu.

When the problem appears, I can see that pressing the left windows key is still detected, so it is no some dust issue, and the right windows key still opens windows start menu.

Also, I can neither get the Start10 menu to appear by clicking the Start10 square icon that replaces the Window button in the corner.

So it looks like there is something in the Start10 application that prevents it from showing the Start10 menu.

Best regards,

While you try Mike (AzDude) suggestion abovr, would also like to know, if you have Classic Shell or something similar to it installed in your system?

Thank you,

Hi Basj and AzDude,

No, I am not using Classic Shell with Start10.

Since the problem does not occur until some time after restart, I fear that any debug process with Clean Boot or other can take quite long.  Also, when I can not rerun Start10, it is too tedious to restart Windows when Start10 stops to appear.

So, sorry to say, but I chose to "solve" the problem by uninstalling Start10, and live with the definitely worse Windows 10 menu, that anyway have the advantage that it appears, which is better than having a great Start10 that does not appear.

Hope to install Start10 again next year, and then maybe the problem does not occur again.

Best regards,
