Unable to create a restore point

After installing Start10 I am unable to create a system restore point.  When I try to launch the "Create a restore point" I receive the following error:

Windows cannot access the specificed device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

The file it is referring to is C:\USERNAME\Start10Ctrlpnl\Classic_{DD338333-7000-45CC-A84D-64680D6E683D}

If I uninstall Start10 I am able to create a restore point.  I also tried taking ownership of the file and folder and confirmed my account and the system account have full access permissions in the security tab.

Windows 10 - 1803

Start10 - 1.60

Thanks

Hello,

Sorry you are having issues , I have the same Windows version and Start 10 version

Thank you for the suggestion.  I ran the purge bat file as suggested and re-ran setup, but unfortunately the problem still exists.

Upon doing a little more research the problem appears to be related to the installation location of the setting content files and the start10 search function.  For this new installation the control panel files are placed in the following location:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Start10Ctrlpnl\

I have another Windows 10 machine that I installed Start10 on a while ago and the control panel files are in the following location:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US

On the working machine if I use the start10 search box it finds the location of the control panel files and launches successfully.

On the non-working machine I copied the control panel files  to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US and I am able to launch the control panel applets successfully, however, the start10 search box still returns search results for the applets in the location where they cannot be run from.

I also noticed that if I use the Cortana search I am able to launch the various control panel applets successfully.  It is only when using the normal start10 search function which points to the C:\Users\USERNAME\Start10Ctrlpnl\ location that fails.  As far as permissions are concerned I tried everything on that folder including taking ownership, setting full control permissions explicitly, and creating a new folder with the applets in it.

I didn't get any prompt during installation as to where to install these files.

Thanks!

Hello,

to be clear can you now make a Restore Point with Windows ?

At my end I have always been able to make Restore points but

when I try to restore from them about 60% of the time it says

unable to do the restore .

Maybe others have some input on this .

Yes and no.  I am able to create a restore point if I use Cortana or go directly to the control panel.  The problem turns out to be with any control panel function, not just creating a restore point.  That just happened to be what I was trying to do when I first noticed the problem.

If I use the start10 search for any action that uses a control panel applet and try to launch it from there I get the error.  Basically, the problem is that something has changed in the installation process or for Windows 10 Enterprise where the Start10Ctrlpnl is placed in a different location and the applets cannot be launched from this new location despite manually changing permissions.

I've had to change the start10 search box to use cortana instead since none of the control panel applets can be run from start10 search.

The file it is referring to is C:\USERNAME\Start10Ctrlpnl
End of quote

A fix is in the works for items (shortcuts) that are stored there.  It should not be long.
