odd tip for getting rid of tooltip popups

I hate tooltip popups. If a button is labeled it would still popup with an identical tooltip.Thats what the status bar is for.Plus it usually contains more info.Searched the web for a solution but never found one.(like a registry tweak or checkbox)But if you have winamp 2.9(or 2.x whatever)And run an input plugin called NICE MC ,for some reason,no more popups! the glitch in the code seems to have no other problems.I just set winamp to start with windows. This dosnt work with winamp 3 and nice mc charges for that version anyway.the 2.9 version of nice mc is free.THe only plugin only has to be installed,i dont even know what it does.To me this is worth the amount of memory winamp uses even if you dont use it.Plus you can run multiple instances of winamp just in case you cant do without winamp 3.

I liked the tip, I just don't want winamp 2.91. It has been discontinued, IIRC. I was hoping that someone else would comment on how to get rid of those damn things by setting/unsetting some option or another. Thanks for your information though.

Also...i dont think WA2.91 is discontinued, they just have a newer version. You can still download 2.91 anytime you like. Some actually prefer it over WA3

Tooltips are generally there for a reason, example. I created a program which looked fine on my comp, when I sent it to some one that used Large Fonts he couldn't read what was on the button and asked me in a chat program, so I updated the prog with Tooltips for that reason and maybe other reasons that I haven't come across.

Fuzzy it has to be be WA2.91 and the correct version of nice mc.Not the latest version but the one released for WA2.AS for readability ,there is generally more info on the status bar...who needs tooltips? When i'm using skinstudio they popped up everywhere and slowed down the program plus obscuring what i was trying to see. When i mouseover a taskbar item the same thing thats written there popsup above it!Just a pet peeve so i figured there had to be more out there that hated them too.

I don't believe this method of ridding yourself of tooltips will work for everyone.. but has more to do with a conflict on your computer.

The problem with ridding yourself of tooltips is many are program indepentent. This edit will rid you of tooltips on the window buttons Min, Max and close.

Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called "MinMaxClose" and set it according to the value data below.

Registry Settings
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
Value Name: MinMaxClose
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

The previous tip was for all ver. of windows this one is XP Home and Pro.

Open the Registry Editor Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\ControlPanel\Desktop.
Double-click UserPreferencemask and change its value to 3E 00 00 00.
Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows.

Thanks tatic ,that was the first one i found but it only covers the min max buttons .This tip is not specific to my pc and it is system wide.Dont know why it works but it works for other people too, thats how i found out about it.(at the winamp website if i remember correctly. If tooltips are needed back quickly just go to system tray and exit winamp and they are back instantly.(like for a program like Hoppity's that has no status bar.
