Do I have a deal for you!

At least since 3.04, (might be earlier, I don't remember) a civilization will offer me a trade.  Say they want a tech, some resources, and credits.  The NPC offers a tech, and some resources.  This is a balanced deal on the screen.  If I remove the credits they want, the deal goes wildly in my favor say 80%.  I can remove the resources they want.   I can have the NPC give me more resources, another tech and some credits to reach a new balanced deal.  So for a tech, I get two techs, several resources and credits.   If my tech was that valuable at the end, why wasn't the offer at that rate at the beginning?

The AI waned a good deal, you refused, by amending the trade. AI no longer thought he/she could get a good deal.

Just like spotting an old Mk1 escort in someones backyard and offering them £50 for it when you know it is worth alot more, you either get it cheap or they laugh at you and say it worth alot more money.

The value of trade depends on a few factors, such as how much they like you and what trade bonuses you have. If your relation is at -10, any modification you make to the trade will result in it turning into a "joke" for the AI. I am not sure what the AI uses to weigh its trades, but it never makes balanced (or even reasonable) deals. I once had an AI faction with half my power and +10 relations asking for Beyond Mortality while only offering up one weapon support tech and a few hundred credits.

Unless I'm confused, I think you misunderstood the OP. The OP is saying that the deal moves in favor of the human player.

I've witnessed this behavior on my most recent game, also. I was vastly in the lead--not sure if that had anything to do with it--but the AI would offer a deal, it would show up as balanced, but if I removed any of the items from my side (what I was giving), the deal would become more favorable for me.

In other words, by giving less, I was able to get more.

If I recall correctly, formerly the AI would offer good deals to the human player that, by altering in some way, the human player would miss out on the deal. The opposite seems to be true now. The AI is offering deals, the game shows the deal as balanced, but the truth is, the AI are trying to get more from the human player--but if the human alters the deal, it becomes an exploit and the human can get more from the AI.

This seems like a bug to me.
