Secondary computer won't upgrade to Pro

Paid for pro upgrade from the version that came with object desktop, works fine on my primary computer. Says "Pro" in about box. But it doesn't say "Pro" on my secondary, and won't let me drag and drop files. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Hello,
I have forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I was able to copy/paste, but I followed your instructions and ran the bat and reinstalled. I even rebooted in-between, just in case. I can still copy/paste, but whenever I try to drag a file or folder, I get a circle with a line through it whenever my cursor is over Multiplicity.

I also discovered that whenever I switch my secondary to a primary, the about screen shows the Pro version. When I switch back to secondary it disappears. This happens every time I switch. I also tried switching back and forth on my primary computer, same thing happens.

Maybe I'm dragging wrong. Do I need to hold down a key or use some other modifying technique. I can find no actual help file on this, just the install and troubleshooting help.

Are you using seamless or KVM mode here?

KVM mode will not let you drag things into the KVM window, seamless mode will let you drag between computers.

The UI on a secondary will always just say Multiplicity because only the primary is activated.  It therefore does not know what license you have so opts to just say Multiplicity.  During connection the information is passed over to it in order to enable features, but the features will only be enabled on a connection from a Pro version of MP and will not update the UI.

That does answer my questions, but means I upgraded for no reason whatsoever. Just so I don't feel like a sucker, can you show me on the Multiplicity sales page where it says the first listed feature does not work in the mode the software is named for (KVM Pro)?

At the top of the page it says:

Multiplicity is a versatile, secure and affordable wireless KVM software solution. Its KVM switch virtualization frees up your workspace, removing the cables and extra hardware of a traditional KVM switch. Whether you are a designer, editor, call center agent or road warrior using both a PC and laptop, Multiplicity makes working across multiple computers a breeze.

  • Quickly and Securely Drag/Drop and Copy/Paste between PCs

  • Control Multiple PCs with One Keyboard and Mouse

  • AES 256 Encryption of all data sent between PCs

I upgraded to control headless machines in another office, and even rereading now I can't find any mention of Drag/Drop not working in KVM mode. Even now to my eyes it looks as if the features mentioned are referring to the paragraph above. I see no mention of "seamless mode" anywhere on the entire page.

End of Bathosfear's quote

Drag and Drop (D&D) is not a feature at all in KM so it is appropriate that is its mentioned in the versions that it is, KVM and KVM Pro, as they do offer it in one of the modes - Seamless.  There are also other features that are only available in the other version, not just D&D:

While I will work with more creative sales material minds to perhaps phrase it better, it is hard to convey, in the KVM column, something like:

'Drag and Drop is available in KVM, but only for Seamless mode but not in a KVM window - the column we are listing this feature in .'

While a potential exaggeration, it should be clear that it is difficult to be terse with phrasing and not further confuse the potential client when they do not even (yet) know what Seamless connections even are.

In summation, it's not an effort to deceive, rather, difficult to phrase in a way that does not have the consumer dismissing the product for unnecessary confusion.  To be honest, in my many years here, I have only had a few that have mentioned the inability to D&D to a KVM window.  Furthermore, I was able to satisfy them when I pointed out that copy / paste was available. I realize, however, that copy / paste, while accomplishing the same thing, it is not everybody's preference .

That said, I trust you find MP to be a valuable tool otherwise, yes?

Perhaps a simple asterisk (*seamless mode only). Or simply enabling the feature in KVM mode (I know, not that simple).

Reading your post I had a "doh!" moment and realized I can copy and paste files, achieving the same goal. I don't know if this will work with the gigabyte files I work with, but it should and I'll keep you posted.*

Thank you for your patience, and your lack of dismissiveness.

I do like the software overall, that's why I upgraded instead of going to a competitor.

*tested a 1.5gb file using copy/paste, works great!

(If I were googling for software to use computers side-by-side, I don't think I would've seen your product in the search results as any different from the others as I wouldn't know to google "seamless". Perhaps a paragraph in the ad copy describing seamless mode. Sorry, retired tech copywriter here.)
