Object Bar pop up bars

i can help you experiment with the popup bar part

do you have a copy of the classic OB theme, the one that looks like win98 / win2k ? my OB theme is based on this, and it is a good simple example showing how to do this.

in the theme editor, my start menu (win2k style) has an item called "Settings", which is of behaviour class "Popup Menu Item".

because of this, i can set (on the behaviour tab) which bar (or even bars) to popup when i activate (mouse click, keyboard enter) this item.

nice and simple, when you know to do this. of course, if you dont, it is totally confusing i remember being confused by this myself if this doesn't make sense, we can pick a simple theme, and experiment in parallel with it


with regard to the ultimate OB theme, does it contain:
* dual taskbars
* SDTaskManager plugin showing 3 different graphs
* keyboard access to my desktop shortcuts

if not, then how can it be the ultimate theme? /me already has the ultimate OB theme

there are even two flavours of it, one for work, and one for home

I know how to make a pop up (either in the code itself or from the theme editor) but I just can't figure out how to make the pop up pull away from the theme and sit somewhere else like in the QNX theme or in Dangeruss theme Popcicle dream.

I can just copy QNX and change all the bitmaps and code and have my pop up/trip away menu but I want to know what it is so I understand it better. Some pop ups do not allow you to tear it away (it is un movable) Another theme based off of treetogs (I think) NO os theme can be dragged across the screen.


I just don't see a difference between the one that can't be moved and the one that can not ANYWHERE!!!

oh and by the way, I already have a theme that has CPU readings, a place to put url's, and other neat'o stuff. But that is not the Object theme.

I think I know... 1. pull up the theme editor 2. highlight the bar that is to be the popup, not the popup object. 3. click the sizing and positioning tab. 4. click "auto hide" under the docking heading and choose whichever best fits. also check out more sizing and positioning options below that. Not sure if that's what your after, but hope it helps

joe, part of the answer lies in the fact that you can drag bars around the screen by holding down the CTRL key.

as i recall, if you look at one of the standard OB themes which have a winXP style start menu /me *shudders at the horror of this*

the start menu is made up of 4 separate bars. top, bottom, left and right. these are the 4 sections of the XP start menu blob.

somewhere in one of the skin files there are coordinates that specify where these 4 bars go on the screen.

i remember looking into this many moons ago. hang on and i will try and find the thread with the info in it

Yes I know about the coorodinates thingy... finind that little piece of info a few weeks ago allowed me to have a hidden bar go from the right side of the screen all the way to the left.



why would I do that? I' looks cool.

I forgot about the ctrl key. totally... and the sizing and positioning tab that knatzz is refering too.

I'll give the suggestions a shot and will upload THE ULTIMATE ob THEME THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN when its finished.

I wonder though how come know one else did this before? Having a bar sit on the screen to the desktop or have rip away menu items? Or even a expandable menu that sits on the desktop?

ah, i think i remember now. the desktop is that thing that stops my windows falling through to the back of the monitor

so, the simple answer, for me at least, is that anything that doesn't dock to a screen edge, look small, and be very powerful is either:
* to large
* buried under so many windows it is of no use
* both

my OB theme is very tailored to how i work. also, i have autohide bars, since they are to slow on a slow machine with lots of open windows

different people have different requirements, which is why i love OB for its configurability
