Multiple communication window issue

I have been having an issue where I will get a communication window from one race and it will immediately get overwritten by a communication window from another race.  I do not currently have a save file where I can reliably reproduce this.  I am currently playing on a Large galaxy with 9 opponents.  I also had it happen on a Medium galaxy with 5 opponents.  It has been long enough since I last played that I do not remember if it happened before Intrigue launched.

I am bumping this because it is still happenning with Retribution and the latest patches.
Same as here:

It's hard to record a video, I would need to record the entire game once I have met a few races.  Basically, once race tries to contact you, and instead of waiting on me to click "done", the window is closed and another one appears.  Sometimes, another one too.  You could now be at war with a race and have missed the declaration.  Or someone send you a gift and you don't know about it.

I've made sure this is added to the tracker. Are there any specific steps that seem to reproduce this? Perhaps in the game setup.

End of SchismNavigator's quote

Nothing in particular.  I tend to play in immense maps with many custom races and ships from Steam Workshop.

It is really happening once you have discovered and established contacts with many races.  Once your turn begins, sometimes, but not always, there are multiples races trying to contact you, and they seem to pop up one after the other without the user doing anything.

One appears, it is closed automatically, another one appears, it is also closed, another one appears and then you get a dialogue (or simply have to click "done").  Sometimes only two windows appears like that, somethimes 3 or 4.

This has been there since the beginning of the game.  I can't replicate it, reloading a save game from the turn before will give something else (maybe no window, maybe only one dialogue window, etc).

Lots of people seem to be reporting this issue, we all have different setups.

You could try to play with this game until the issue reproduces, but it could take a lot of turns, it might even not happen at all :(

In this game, I have also noticed that races I have already established contact with are using dialogue lines like it is the first time they see me.  I've never seen something like that before, and I am wondering if it is my particular setup for this game, having one ally from the start, I "meet" races as my ally meets them, and then once more when a survey or scout ship encounters them (or they encounter me)...  I haven't paid close attention to this particular problem, I was more focused on the multiple windows issue.

Anyway, here is a save you could try:

Gods, this bug happens all the time on big maps.

Dialogs are not really modal, one dialog will replace the previous one.  It's not just diplomacy, any event dialog will simply close whatever is open and replace it.

There doesn't seem to be a way to get a list of events that happened on this turn (the left float for Notifications doesn't seem to include almost any event, only build completion and a short list of other events).

This could be easily solved by adding more Notification entries (for more event types) or a bit more convoluted by blocking one dialog until the previous one closes.

This thread and https://forums.galciv3.com/471543/page/1 are talking about the same issue, by the way.

I've just reproduced it on 3.6 with all DLC installed.

Easiest way to reproduce is to have a lot of races and enable "abundant" events (the more popups the better).

The biggest problem is that I can't hit almost any popup for Ideology, I think these get rendered first.

This the first time I've seen this but there is a Civ who is so happy to see me nearly every turn. We've known each other for a long time and have even traded some goods. Maybe he is having short-term memory lapses?

The messages have been getting overwritten like this for a while now-- very frustrating, indeed.

Use the following instructions at the buttom, Support tool: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Knowledgebase/Article/View/496/161/general-galactic-civilizations-iii-troubleshooting Use the tool to generate a debug log when it happens.

Submit said debug report to Stardock along with your last autosave prior to the bug + debug.err + prefs.ini. mcdvoice

Maybe they'll be able to trigger something, we never know.

I do not beleive this is actually a bug per se. What you are seeing is an old window before the "new message" is shown, its called UI Lag tbh, and yes its worset on large maps. If you try to remember what your last diplomacy was with you will see what I mean :)

BTW it does not only happen with diplomacy, happens with the event and galactic news windows.

That's still an issue in the most recent version.

And I do think it's a bug.  Any communication window should wait for my prompt before being dismissed as there's no other way for me to see what the message was.

@Falkoner
This is ongoing and was reported many moons ago.

As usual, SD has chosen to ignore this along with many other complaints along the way. They actually did fix a few things maybe a year ago but that was after years of complaints by dedicated fans of this game (myself included).

I've basically given up on any hopes of this game ever getting upgraded to anything that resembles a professional level. It's all in the details, SD. Second verse, same as the first-- fix what you have before you try to add new stuff.

Sad times,

Richard

While I am disappointed that some bugs remain since the beginning the game, I feel the game has improved tremendously and close to 99% of the issues I have reported or have seen reported have been fixed.  Every expansion pack/DLC has brought new features, and I think it's a must for any gaming company if they want to keep fixing bugs long into the future of the game.  I wish the game had been better on release, but a lot of games are like that, unfortunately, Stardock isn't unique in that.

I know Sean said we should post issues here, but I always found they were fixed faster when I posted through tech support compared to the forum.  :)

P.S. No, I can't really submit a save game, since it might not happen again, nor can I record it unless I record all of the game and that's a huge file. :(  the issue is as described though: whenever you receive more than one notification at the beginning of the turn, the first window(s) will always disappear.
