Feature request : better control for delayed updates
User settings to disable and/or delay automatic updates directly on control panel.
Why :
Reason is pretty obvious to those that have installed an update that had an negative affect to what's now called user experience.
This is not limited only to this bug, but right now there are more than few request for information on this forum about update loop, for example https://forums.stardock.com/487337/fences-3081-after-update and https://forums.stardock.com/487650/repeating-request-to-update-and-instasll .
Many of those posts relate to a bug in code installed via recommended updates pop-up. Bugs do happen, but affects to users experience can and should easily be controlled.
What:
Update setting to delay pop-up notification and to same effect the automatic installation of certain updates (e.g. parts of object desktop or fences).
This feature could be controlled via programs control panel and users should use this preemptively, if they want to control the install delay or when recommended to install an update.
This could also be used in connection to normal release cycle to fix an problematic update by releasing fix right after. With delay end user would only receive the fixed update to be installed. If two updates are released within delay period then earlier one will be ignored and delay should be calculated from the newest one. Users could be encouraged to use sane values but should not be limited too low. Maybe this would be most beneficial in point releases.
Delay could also be set to "skip all point releases" and to upgrade only to next major version. This would be closest to never update and still being useful.
Whom:
For all end users, including business users.
Admins may want to know and to set this as an registry key to control this feature for all users in group in the Windows domain GPO-settings.
When:
It's is certainly not critical, so I humbly ask you to add it into your list of this years milestones.
If this is duplicate request, please include all useful parts to the best request available.
Big thank you for the team for this great program.
