There a single reason why i have not uploaded any of my awesome walls: That reason would be (read the 2 posts above mine) that I don't mind being moderated but I know they would get rejected cause they are either not as good as everyone elses or the are to "White"
I tend not to create walls that are dark, that just depresses me. Hence the reason I love OS X and Mac. But since I am stuck using a PC i will make walls for myself they are bright.

BTW I agree with the voting system. 1 moderator should not say ya or nay. It should be voted on like everything else in this world.

I dont upload expecting to get accepted, im not as good as most but you won't improve as quick unless you set yourself a target.

Phoon....yes, that's exactly how it is done, though on occasion a wall submission will either be 'so good' or 'so bad' that there really is no reason to wait for further comment and one 'opinion' suffices....'chick-walls' figure into the latter category...

So, Jafo.. are you saying that if comment is not received by the author, that the submission is really really bad?

No....generally no 'public' comment will be made on a work....only private comments by moderators to confer and concur...

Notification of a work 'rejection' is only made to clarify/explain a policy violation...if the upload is 'porn' they will be told it is such....that sort of thing...

While Y'all are duking it out over what gets through & what doesn't, I'm just submitting my 2nd and I'm glad for the coment by Boxxi that he would respond if asked about a rejection. I don't know about anyone else but i'm just trying to learn to do this stuff and I know there are other sites which seem to take everything. If & when I finally get one accepted, i'm sure it will probably be because of the rejections and what I learned from them. If the criticism comes from the moderator then you know what they are looking for. So the irate coments are just hurting those of us who would appreciate constructive criticism.

Walls are not moderated by one person.  They are discussed and then either rejected or published.  Since multiple people have seen the work, if people have a question, they can email a moderator/admin of choice from the "about" box.  We quit send personal emails to rejections due to time and frustration concerns.  We received too many hostile personal emails.  So, it was either stop sending emails, or quit having the wallpaper library.  We decided to quit sending emails.

Just so everybody understands how it works...
All the new submissions have a special comment box for the admins to comment on it. Only admins can see this box. Basically, for wallpapers, a few admins will leave comments in that box. Those admin comments can go from the simple "No way" to much more complex comments basically expressing the like or dislike of the admin. Once a number of admins comments have been made, one of us then clicks on the "exile skin" or the "make public" button.  But as Jafo said, sometimes a wall can be so fantastic or so obviously bad that one admin may decide to not wait for ther admins to comment and immediately accept or reject. Let me tell you that you guys do not see the bad ones: art is not always a matter of taste. There are quite a few that nobody would argue about; those are rejected rather quickly.

I was just saying that. although you may comment and discuss submissions, your wisdom is not omnipotent. Sure, you are able to sift the better handlers of proggies, but this is as, you always have stated a skinning site. Too many times I read "art". Most of the time I replace that with "skin/colour combination". And yeah, some walls are art.

We moderate walls based on our guidelines and what is appropriate for the site.

All else has been said that is relevant to how walls are moderated.

and, who determines what "art" is?  Just because it is artistic does not mean that it makes a good wall.

Precisely, nobody is omnipotent, and that should make you humble in the position you have.

On one hand we have to juggle humility in the face of freely offered works, on the other the stand-over demands of some that their works DESERVE acceptance.

One thing EVERY wall moderator would love to see is 'diversity'...creative innovation and imagination when it comes to walls AND skins too, for that matter.

Too often we receive in either field 'same old crap but bluer' described by the author as 'refreshingly different'...

It's never particularly clever to underestimate the moderators' intelligence...

Some artists confuse quantity with quality, assuming that if a million items are submitted then the law of averages applies and a number of them will get through.  I rather see it as if there were ONLY ONE work submitted by an author then it alone has a higher likelihood of acceptance...so he at 'least' has one work 'up'.  Flatulent spamming of the submissions runs the risk of people reacting out of sheer frustration of seeing more of the same and rejecting them ALL.

I think everyone would agree there are more than enough sea/mountain/sky terragens [for example] already...and what we 'should' be looking for is truly innovative permutations of them in future rather than just accept them because they are as 'good' as ones we have already.

Think of the wall section in particular as a 'communal library'.....where each 'book' adds to the appeal and diversity of the whole.  It doesn't matter how fantastic Tolstoy's War And Peace is...there is only so many copies of it you can have in a library befor you start looking like a book wholesaler.
