Chrome keeps jumping out of the Group

Chrome keeps jumping out of the Group

I have been using Groupy for a few days and really like it plus it has been functioning as expected for the most part.  The one issue that keeps happening is when I have a group of several browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, etc.) it all works fine except randomly (but always) Chrome jumps out of the group and I have to re-attach it to the group.  I am not sure what event actually triggers this, but it always happens after a few minutes when i am working on something else out of my browsers group so I find that Chrome is not in the group when I return to.

One other less significant issue with the same group is that if I have the group minimized and then want to return to it by clicking on one of the open browsers in the taskbar, the entire group always expands (opens) to only a 1/2 of the screen size, not full screen.

Any help or sharing any similar experiences with these issues will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Kaveh

Yes, I updated to Groupy 1.10 and tested this issue over the last couple of days.  Unfortunately the same problems continues with the new version... disappointing.

@kavehvarjavand

I would like to know which operating system you are using.

Do you use a multiple monitor environment?  &, If windows 10...multiple virtual desktops?

What happens when you move tabs from one google chrome browser window into another when the chrome windows are in one or more Groupy windows. (I have to take the google windows out of a group other wise the tabs go crazy)

I use both Chrome & Chrome Canary at the same time, have you tried Chrome Canary in your setup...does it behave the same?  (btw...Canary will crash if hangouts extension is running in both chrome & canary...occasionally a few other extension conflicts happen...most seem ok...I run over 20 of the same extensions in each version of the browser without problems...)

Kind regards, Chadwick

Thanks Chadwick.  Here is the info you asked for:  I am running 3 monitors on Windows 10 OS, latest version and build.  I do not use virtual desktops, just one master desktop.  Also, just using standard Chrome, not Canary.  At one point I tried to include Chrome in incognito mode in my Groupy and the same problem continued - it jumped out. All other browsers stay withing the group with no problems.

Well, 1.11 is out - can you still report the same issue?  We simply cannot.

Thank you.  I just installed 1.11 and will report back either way after testing for one or two days.

Sorry to say that the problem continues even with Groupy 1.11.  By the way, the problem is consistent on two different desktop devices.

Thanks for reporting back , we will be looking into your issue

Different desktops that you likely have Chrome synced the same , similar settings, and apps.

I would like you to try the following:

  1. Do the Win10 clean boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
  2. Enable the Groupy Service.  You can use this batch file to do so or go to Services manually:
    http://sd.stardock.com/Support/uploads/GroupyStart.zip
  3. Test
  4. If it fails, and you are logged into Chrome, please log out of Chrome and test.

What this test does:

  1. Tests that there is not another app, service that is contributing
  2. Tests that there is not a Chrome extension at play.

Now, for what we have seen...

Chrome will not 'jump out', rather, it will not consistently work with saved groups - it will not consistently open in a saved group if Chrome has already been opened once, then closed, then a Chrome group is reopened.  There are so many Chrome processes that remain open after the actual browser is closed that this is believed to be the reason.

That said, you reported your issues long before we had saved groups.

Have you tried changing the order you use put the various browsers into the group?  For example, in my environment IE will not add to a Chrome & Firefox group, but if I group IE first then I can add multiple chrome windows in etc...

so far I can not replicate the exact issue you indicate (which surprised me since my environment usual provokes every challenge/issue/bug SD ever encounters ;-)

however I do also see strange behavior, for example I can only get 2 Opera windows to group (just with them selves)...the third will not join the same group as the 1st two Opera windows and the windowfx animations of the 3rd opera window become very stuttered...I can swap around the grouped Opera windows so it is not related to just one of the windows...

Thank you sdRohan and growflavor for your suggesstions.

Frankly, just before I was able to try these solutions, I encountered another more significant issue with Groupy having to do with how it behave with Excel. Long story short, I have had to give up using Groupy altogether since the issue with Excel is something I cannot just live with.  I just posted a lengthy response to one of the existing posts regarding Excel issues explaining my problems. Feel free to view that post to see what my specific problems are with Groupy and Excel, and potentially the same with other Office Applications.
