Windows 10 Blocking Start 10

Doesn't Run Automatically Anymore

Start 10 Used to work just fine, but after a recent Windows update, the OS is blocking it. Also, every time I go in and tell the OS to run it, I get Start 10, but just for that one session. Once I reboot, it goes back to blocked, as-in not running. I even renewed my subscription to this software that I bought despite it not having even been a year yet, reinstalling all of it, but Windows 10 is still blocking the actual running of Start 10. I also never would have bought this software if I'd known 1) there is no tech support directly for this and 2) I have to rebuy the software every year. If anyone knows how to force Start 10 to run all the time in Windows 10 with the latest updates to both, please let me know.

You don't have to purchase Start10 each year as you have the stand-alone version, it's not a subscription.

If you are an Object Desktop member you can simply save your installers and continue using it.

For your issue, I would suggest purging and reinstalling and see if that solves the issue.

No. Re-installing does NOT resolve the issue. I paid for Start and I don't get to use it unless I every time I boot up, I got to the Task manager and force it to run. Anytime the system reboots, the Services tab lists Star10 as "Disabled" again. I'm not buying anything from Stardock in the future unless they start providing actual tech support for their products.

See if activating Start 10 with command prompt works for you ( follow directions )

Command Prompt for Windows 10

press and hold down Windows Key + X key

select " Command Prompt ( Admin ) "

I assume this isn't a Parallels desktop install running under MacOS?

If not then something is forcing the service to disabled again.  If it is set to Automatic then that's how it will stay, Start10 contains no code to set it to disabled so if it is being reset then something else on your computer is doing that.

Please note it will not be Windows / Microsoft, but more likely some antivirus / antimalware / bootup optimizer software which is doing stupid things without telling you.

Start10 works fine on the latest version of Windows 10.

Having looked further at your post, I notice you say you go to the taskmanager to start the service.

Do not do this.  Run Services.msc and find Stardock Start10.  Set this to automatically startup.  Using Taskmanager may well not force the startup state to be automatic on next boot hence only fixing the issue for the one boot.

For no apparent reason my installed Start10 v1.56  is no longer actually changing the appearance of my menu which remains in the standard Windows 10 manner no matter what troubleshooting I've tried. The regular Window 10 Start Menu remains active whether or not I choose Start10's "Windows 7 Style" or "Modern" style. (The Start10 "Modern" menu was my go-to menu before all this happened.) I've reinstalled the program several times after deleting all program folders and cleaning registry. Disabling other Stardock applications hasn't helped. Start10 is loaded at startup and is a running service but affects nothing.

I'm mystified. Any suggestions?

Purging and reinstalling worked like a charm. Thanks very much for coming to my aid.

And next time I will start a new post.
