Apple made some strange choices with the iOS11 UI, particularly the fonts, which are fugly.

I used to routinely jailbreak my iPhone to take advantage of alternative fonts, up through about iOS8, but what was once relatively easy & straightforward is now anything but, if it can be done at all.  The most recent JB is for 10.2 and is only semi-tethered.

Apple has steadily gained an insurmountable advantage in the spy-vs-spy game they play with the JB community.

Selling devices instead of hardware and software is what both Apple and Microsoft want. It gives them more control. For Apple this has worked well so far.

We all value different things. For many people a highly polished experience out of the box is worth a lot even if it means that the experience is not very customizable.

For us who are more geeky the ability to customize the experience is worth more. Not to mention that the hand-holding has taken aggressive forms such as deleting unwanted (read useful) programs. The tinker part of computers took a step back (or two) in recent years. Apple products were never designed for tinkerers (no freedom) so combined with high prices it makes them less than ideal for tinkerers. As a worktool I can understand the iPhone, even though I preferred the look of iOS 6 and earlier compared to Jony Ive's white bathroom.

I'm still rocking my LG G2, it's fantastic!

I will stick with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, 64GB, probably for a very long time.   

If anyone still has an iPhone 5C, I have a nice brand new case for one sitting here that my son never used, still in the package. PM me if you want it.

I'm happy to see that you're not having issues with your iPhone 8, along with probably millions of other satisfied customers.

And of course you're right, Apple isn't the only company to experience teething problems with new releases.  As I recall, Microsoft has had its fair share as well.... and I'm no fanboi of theirs, either.  As for Apple products being bad, there's good and not so good in all products, and sometimes Apple stuff has been somewhat iffy.  Having said that; however, they are usually pretty quick to remedy issues that arise.  Like all products, factory testing can go flawlessly, it's only when products are out in the wild that faults, etc, appear.

It is true that I like to bash Apple a bit and stick it to the fanbois, but in truth I have an Apple MacMini and quite like it.  The only shortfall for me is not being able to dress up the desktop using Stardock products.  Other than that, it serves me well.... though installing non-store apps would be nice as well.  I'm sure there is a way, though, I just have to find it.

Once upon a time, I had an iPhone 3G (I think that's what it was called). It was my first smartphone. Loved it! Then there was the iPhone 4 followed by the iPhone 4S. They rocked the Apple Bumper cases. Killed it! After that, the Nokia Lumia 920 and 1520 phones were my choice. The Windows Mobile OS is by far my favorite phone OS yet. I don't care what anyone says about Windows Phones, those two phones were great. The people I sold them to are still using them. Then came the Samsung Note 4. I hated that damn thing. Either charging or swapping batteries 2 or 3 times a day is ridiculous. Samsung's OS on top of Droid left a lot of room for improvement back then. I came to my senses and returned to Apple with the iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus. Great phones but after a while, the physical size of the phones got tiresome. Then came the day I was hanging out with my little brother when he bought a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone and Gear S3 Frontier watch. I allowed myself to be talked into getting the same package. Oh boy, what a mistake! I was charging that phone 4 and 5 times a day. The watch was cool though. My son said he wouldn't mind trying Droid so I sent the Samsung crap to him (he promptly sold it to somebody in San Fran two weeks later and purchased an iPhone 8) and bought a used iPhone 6S to use until the X was released. It was six weeks later I got my X. Got a new Apple Watch too. Happy with my current setup, I am (that's my really bad Yoda impression). Two Apple leather cases, one black and one brown, for the phone and the same color Nomad leather bands for the watch and I'm all set. Oh yeah, before all that were numerous flip and slide style Sony-Ericsson phones from the Centennial Wireless days before they were bought by AT&T. After two disastrous ventures into the Android phone world, I'll never return. I'm not completely against Google though. I have a Google Home and 2 Google Home Mini smart speakers in the house. So yeah, I'm pretty happy with my X. Unless somebody offers me an arm and a leg for it, I'll keep it for a bit. Apple Care for it is pretty expensive though. It's no more expensive than insurance through the carrier though. <extremely long and poorly formatted paragraph over> Out!
