Personal Pages on WinCustomize

As some of you know, I have a site I blog on (https://www.joeuser.com).

One of my other favorite sites, deviantART has a neat feature where your personal page is actually somethingl like frogboy2.deviantart.com.

I was wondering what people thought about having a more enhanced system here that is similar to what is on dA but perhaps targeting more features on blogging, writing tutorials and including handy things for creating a real home page.

A lot of sites let you create a home page. So to make this worthwhile, we'd want to make it so that you can really include a lot of stuff on this. You wouldn't be editing HTML, instead we would try to provide you with the ability to put up the kinds of things you want there.

Anyway, this would be some effort so I wanted to hear fro you guys as to whether you'd like to see that or not.

Initially it sounds like a great idea. Who would be able to have such a page? Subscribers, joe public...wouldn't want a rant page or anything like that.

Exellent idea. And I echo werewolf's concerns.

I like it. Devart doesn't seem to have to many problems with them.

Great idea. I've never been much into blogging, but certainly more interested if associated with something I enjoy being a part of. I would imagine intially at least it could become part of the Wincustomize subscription.... hint hint lol.

I think it is a great Idea

To be honest I think it would be best suited as part of Subscriptions. I would assume that Personal Pages will require more Bandwidth, so make it a Subscription Feature.

If Bandwidth is not a problem then i would suggest that anyone citizen or higher could have a personal Page

I like that idea. I've never bothered to set a real homepage for myself, but I do update my devart page now and then. Obviously, I rather have that info here.

Hi!

Nice idea, Frog.

Sounds good frog.. would it be free??? or included with the WC subscription??? or would you have to pay seperate...??? but if each author could set their pages here that would be wonderfull and they could give more advanced bios of themselves and news of updates to their skins and such... I like that alot I support that idea 100% and would gladly give my support and assistance on such a novel idea

I like the idea. Like others, I also think it'd be a feature available to WC subscribers. Given the initial development and potential additional maintenance & bandwidth workload, would it be included in the cost of a subscription? Or would there be a nominal additional fee? Perhaps that's yet to be determined, but I think it'd be a cool feature to have here.

i really like the idea, it will expand the community of skinners here, in stead of our normal core skinners we would have more of chance to teach ppl the tricks of trade. I LIKE IT!!!!

would give mea reason to go out and get my subscribtion

It has indeed been suggested that it would be another advantage for subscribing.

I'm not familiar with the DA personal pages thing - I don't go there often anymore.

Like elvee, bandwith concerns come to mind. We know this is an ongoing issue at WC, at least for non-subscribers. I'd hate to see anything exacerbate (Jafo?) this. Certainly the notion of only being available to subscirbers makes sense.

/me hears the roar of the crowd chanting "evil money-grubbing Stardock!"

I'm all for it.
I'd like to see the sort of information details as available on the Devart pages...personal info about the people...common interests, etc.
It's that sort of thing that promotes understanding and perhaps even respect.

The two 'plusses' about Devart in particular is/was the connectivity of linking [listing recent posts you have commented in, etc, though that's not done now], and the 'personal' home-page. {I don't have my own site ]...

That would be pretty neat, but I'd rather have a quick webpage instead of one with bells and whisles. My concerns are similar with Chef Garry's, in that if bandwidth will be a major problem, forget about it, because I'm am blown away by this site as it is now, and bandwidth problems will only subtract for the enjoyability (probably not a real word) of this website.

Me three! I think short/personal 'bios' and info areas by the skinner/artist would be a great boon to this site, maybe call it "brain picking" tabs (I think it would be cool to have a 'pick my brain' section where you could glean a lot of info/help from a skinner willing to give input). I'm sure many advanced skinners tire of helping people with the same questions over and over and over...I'm sure I frustrate a few.

So, Frogboy...this could really make this site the coolest of all for sure! Only thing I'd do maybe is...only offer it to people who purchase SD stuff or who contribute or are Apprentice on up.

Fresh ideas are great and I think if you made it so people could click on an artists name and see their own kind of 'bio' and info along with their skins it would really be great!

I was thinking initially it would be for all Stardock customers, WC subscribers, and apprentice on up and see how it goes.

Personnaly, I think WC subscribers need maybe a little more juice. I would offer it to inly WC subscribers. Maybe Stardock customers too, but I wouldn't offer it to Apprentices. A little more incentive to help pay for the site wouldn't be bad.

I can't believe I just said that, me the old anti-capitalist hippy.

I agree with paxx. The people that pay support the site, would be a nice reward.

i would be worried about the banwidth too, this site already sux up banwidth like a monster as is, u know what else this site needs, some new site skins, havnt had any ina while...

Universal Metal is cool but, for 2 years, its just alittle long

I have to disagree with not giving access to apprentices, should wincustomize get such a cool new feature. People who reach that level have contributed alot of time and hard work. The art and artists here are the heart of this site, without thier submissions there wouldn't be anything to download; lets not forget that, because it's worth something.

Excellent idea. Would have to be good though - /me is not all that impressed with DA's home pages

Would never use it. Don't see the point (other than "bonding"). But the overall opinion seems to think different.
