Reunion of the old school

Reunion of the old school

A few of us 'oldies' (i.e. from the Skinz days) were just chatting about old times and such.
Anyone else from the good old days still around?

Hell Dragon: That pretty much summarizes my memory of Skinz.org too. It was a combination of just the right size (enough people to provide a lot of different viewpoints but not so many that it became like a gigantic city where you could never keep up). It was at the right time -- during the dot-com era when sites didn't have to really worry about making money, and it had the right look and feel.

WinCustomize.com was heavily influenced if not out right inspired by skinz.org. The message board, the focus on highlighting the top skin authors and top skins, and moderation of wallpapers to keep the number manageable.

I like the way hell dragon put it too, however in order to get the "full feel" of what skinz.org was you need to visit 50 freakin sites now! sheesh! hehe

If WinCustomize hadn't come along when Skinz Died, I'm pretty certain I would have quit graphics and skinning. I, for one, am grateful to the moderation process at Skinz, it really does make you work harder and gives you a sense of satisfaction when you pass moderation. Incidentally, not many people know, but I was one of the last people to stay with Skinz.org in it's dying days, continuing to post on the board and uploading wallpapers. I just didn't want it to end, and I was sad when I had to finally accept it was gone.

Thankfully, WinCustomize has filled the void admirably, and if you can make it here,(with wallpapers) you definitely are doing something right as mentioned in an earlier post, and you will feel that sense of achievement unavailable anywhere else that doesn't moderate images.

I've been lurking here for AGE's as you can tell by my WinCusto number...and although I'm not a "skinner" yet!! so to speak, I feel as though I know all of you guys even if this citizen cazzie from oz isn't known by any of yous, but this place is home as much as was skinz.org...I love coming here and reading the post and watching the banter that goes on. I'm itching to be a part of it but don't know where to start...because my graphical abilities are a bit lacking.

ahhh Skinz.org "the good old days" of being flayed alive on a daily basis by ess-vid, shoggot, iST... Those long summer days of BakerStreet telling me i was going to singlehandly going to bring down the skinning community with SkinWerkz haha. So what the hell happened to Kodman? haha. I thought that was Adni for a while but the quality is there in adni skins so it can't be him. Misery/Deaddreamer just did some work with The Skins Factory along with Lowen on a Terminator 3 Skin not yet released.

I smell serious quality skins lurking in the corners!!
Can't wait to the result of that co-op!

btw, ess-vid drops into the Skinz.org IRC channel from time to time...
