OK

1. You CAN NOT delete the trash can from the desktop on Windows XP. It comes with it and can't go away.

2.Just put the icons from the start menu onto your desktop and drag and drop them to the ObjectDock bar.Get the icons on your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting properties. Go to the desktop tab and click on the "customize the desktop" button.

Hope that helps. I'm still trying to get help with my question @ https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=138656

If you right click on the desktop and look at 'arrange icons by' menu, you will see 'show desktop icons'. Uncheck that and it should hide all your desktop icons.

There is a way in Windows XP to get rid of it.. however if you get rid of it, it'll just disappear and never be seen even in the Windows Exploere or anything like that.. so i strongly NOT recommend it (i did tried it, forgot how to take it bak, had about 3 hours trying to figure out how to get it bak, decides to format, when i was half way done with windows xp installation, my friend calls me and tells me about it)
/me sighs deeeeeeply

So don't do it (you gotta mess around with registry) I've suffered and I do not want any one else to suffer >

if you use a program called Tweak UI, which you can download from microsoft.com... you can get rid of the recycle bin, if that is what you need... I know you can do this, because that is how I did this...

and it will not make you unable to use the recycle bin if you do this... you can put it back at any time with this program...
