The one-armed paper hanger...

Today I had the left hand done so I have a scar on that one to match the one I got this time last year on my right hand.

about 10 hours ago I was being op'd on.....

....currently I'm still waiting for my left arm to wake up....

...my legs...my legs...I can't feel my legs.....

Actually...I think I have a really good idea what paralysis really means.....

Fun part is....the blocker will wear off...in probably 4 or 5 more hours....then I'll be on the pain meds.....

....can't win either way....;p

That's the thing with surgery, it always hurts afterwards.  I've had more surgery over the years than I care to remember [14 ops on my right leg/hip alone] and it's not over yet.  I still need to have surgery on both my hips and knees after I turn 65, possibly my right shoulder as well, plus I'll need to get a cyst removed from throat area as it can cause issues with swallowing and balance because it causes pressure to my right ear.

Yup, there's no respite for the wicked.

Anyhow, Paul, I wish you a speedy recovery and hope the pain doesn't get too much. :)

As long as they released the middle finger it'll be worth it ;)

Stitches come out today.....

Cut is less than half the length of the last op...on the right hand.  That had 18 stitches and around 4" long [halfway across the palm].

This one's about an inch and a half...and about 11 stitches.

Much more survivable...;)

Last time I had stitches I took 'em out myself... saved a trip to the hospital and an exasperatingly long wait.  I spent more time at that hospital [as an inpatient and outpatient] than I care to remember, so unless I'm dying, or sorta feel like it, I avoid going there whenever possible.

That's nothing!  I got one on my right leg [from hip to almost knee] that's 21 inches... had over 100 stitches [internally and externally] back in the day.  Couldn't bear any weight on that leg for 9 1/2 months after the first op, and almost 18 months after the 2nd.  Yup, lost every arse kicking contest I entered during that time.

Well yes, it can, but we don't need to go there today..... ;P  :-"

Seriously, though, I am amazed at what surgeons can do these days through the smallest of incisions.  Keyhole surgery, as they call it, is truly brilliant and reduces recovery times considerably.  As I said, the first surgery to my right leg left me with a 21" scar, and the second almost as long, but several surgeries later, when I had to get a steel plate removed due to calcification, the scar was/is just 2.2".

Another scar I have is just above my right eye.  It is just under half an inch and allowed a steel plate to be inserted to repair a fractured eye socket and depressed cheek bone.  Yup, they improved upon surgical techniques from the early 70's to the late 90's, and it's even better now.  My sister had a hip replacement in 2010which is similar surgery to what I had in the 70's, and the entry wound/scar is around 4 - 5 inches... a big, big difference from 21".

Same with certain back ailments. Sciatica, pinched nerves and such. A one inch incision and you're back up and about in an hour or two. They call it minimally invasive surgery. Sounds like a sci-fi movie.

Some surgeries don't ever require a one inch incision.  My niece had abdominal surgery using a telescopic tube that allowed the surgeon to not only see the area of interest but was equipped with the necessary tools to perform the necessary tasks.  She was left with a small, round scar about the size of an adult small finger nail.

BTW, Paul, not sure if you saw my PM with the link to a Thermaltake Level 10 external drive bay because of being over at Phillip Island, but given your love of Level 10 gear, I thought I'd re-post it here you here just in case you missed it.  If you want one, though, I'd get in quick if I were you as I don't know they have too many left at that price... AU$75.00.  Even though it was designed with the original Level 10 in mind, I couldn't go past the price and have one on order because it wouldn't look out of place with my version of the Level 10.
