Deleted thread

I have deleted the thread I started about positive comments as it was intimated to me (in e-mail) that it looks as though I was just trying to bring attention to my wallpaper. Why I would need to bring attention to an old image is beyond me, but, while I was just trying to bring an upbeat thread to the message board, it appears I am abusing my position as a moderator. So, in future, I won't bother.

To be honest I thought that for a split second but I then thought as you in that why would you want to do that when your work could stand the test of time. I think the current state of the board could use upbeat threads that deals more with the community then real world situations.

BoXXi....that's hardly the case, as anyone can and sometimes does post an equivalently styled thread.

Sounds more like the person who emailed you needs to rethink his/her attitude/s.

If it's supposed to be 'self-promotion' then I could point out probably a dozen or so threads of 'self-promotion' that no-one has been petty enough to take to task...

Nah, never thought of that. You should bring it up again, IMHO.

It was good to have postitive stuff here. It reminded me that I haven't been commenting nearly enough for the beautiful stuff I download lately.

It was a nice change to read a thread which wasn't being negative.

/me thinks BoXXi's work stands on it's own.
The comment in the mail sounds like envy.

BoXXI - my comment in the thread was good natured teasing. i liked seeing an upbeat, happy art-related thread. we always hear about outrageous comments when they occur, and it was nice to see a snippet of the good end of the spectrum for a change.!

It was a good counter-point to the "negative comment" threads and that's what I interpreted your meaning to be.

/me thinks that this thread is carrying on the spirit of it's demised counterpart....

OK. I feel I have to defend myself. I did not want it to come to this which is why I did not post publicly.

I felt that Boxxi meant nothing more than posting an upbeat thread but it also made me think what would have happened if someone else other than a well respected (deservingly) admin had posted something similar. I am pretty sure people would have stomped on them hard for trying to get people to look at their skin/walls. Maybe I'm just becoming cynical in my old age but I have seen a few messageboad posts which seem designed to just get attention from people to click on their skin link. Also it creates a precedent. If there is a thread there with a copy of all the comments and a link to click on posted by an admin then what's to stop anyone just posting a link to their skin (and comments) and using the excuse that an admin did it first and they were only showing nice comments. If you then turn around and say 'it's different. That was meant as an uplifting message' you then face the possibility of people saying that there are double standards here.

Before contacting BoXXi I waited until I had heard other people mention it in passing and thought that maybe something should be said. I did not wish to offend BoXXi and certainly not imply that he had posted the thread for his own gain.

oh so it was Phil! everyone jump Phil (me hands out the bats) hehe
I'm playing around Phil and you know it, but I do have to say, I really have "Never" understood why ppl are so concerned about what words are posted on a msg board cuz I've always felt they are here for ppl to enjoy and just be themselves why does everyone have to get so nuts about things all the time?

okay I confess I did delete a thread once before snarph jumps me here over on AU (but I am actually shy and he was trying to be himself and compliment me and I kinda got embarrassed and upset and deleted it) other than that I think everything read on a msg board is only ppl enjoying themselves and expressing themselves in "their own unique way"

Why should BoXXi or anyone else for that matter have to think 50 times before a post when he meant no harm but was just being himself and the admin stuff is nonsense I'm sure BoXXi is BoXXi before admin right!?

and before that ^^ gets mixed up I deleted a thread on AU "not" here I don't do nothing here but post stuff that I bet they want to delete hehe!

Actually I did not suggest to delete the thread. I simply mentioned how it _could_ come across to someone else and left it to BoXXi to decide if what I thought mattered at all and what to do as a result.

Jafo: It's precisely because of those other threads that I decided to contact BoXXi. How can someone take anyone posting a similar thread to task (even if it's obvious that they are just posting for the purpose of self promotion) if they have an admin's thread to point to and shout hypocrite. Yes, everyone here knows BoXXi, his work is outstanding and he would never do it for his own gain but what about those who don't know BoXXi or his work?

As a side note, if there hadn't been a link to the skin in question in the post I probably would have passed it by. Nice comments on their own are one thing but nice comments and a link make it look like something else. (And to reiterate, no I don't suspect it for a second in this case)

pjp...people in the past have, and still will continue to find inventive ways to self promotion...beating one's own drum, as it were.....but of late there'd been quite a bit of insidious negativity floating around, perhaps due to a wider stress from the gulf conflict, dunno, but BoXXi's thread 'was' [past tense] a little ray of sunshine, which, as is the par, got trampled upon yet again.

Maybe it'd be a more squeaky-clean innocence of motive if Bryan had posted a list of positive comments to a third party's work, but then again he's allowed to be 'chuffed' about genuine responses to his own work in particular, and I just think it's sad that anyone would want to be so critical when it's clear what BoXXi's intention was in creating an upbeat thread...
