When Excel is pined to the start menu why do the files used no longer appear on a flyout menu?

This used to work but disappeared a few updates ago and I keep hoping it will reappear.

excel is only an example it does not work for any program on the start menu.

This should work fine. This is not a feature we have removed.

Are you using Start 8 or Start10 and which OS are you using it on? Also which version does it say on the about page?
