Galactic Civilizations - worth playing!

Okay, so I installed Gal Civ last night and fired it up. Of course, I had high expectations with the name "Stardock" attached to it, and I was definately not let down.

It is NOT for those of you who do not like micromanagement. If you had a hard time playing Starcraft or any of the RTS - style clones, then you will more than likely have a difficult time playing this.

It's a turn based expansion/conquer sim and its very appealing to the eye. The developers took what looks to be a pain-stakingly long amount of time to make sure that all the attention to detail was present as well as high quality FMV and images, without ever breaking the 'theme' that has been established.

The intro, for example, when the little girl holding her stuffed animal, looks up at the approaching soldier and you see the armada of ships behind him, sets you back and will leave you jaw on the floor.

The resources, systems, ships, and anomolies are all done extremely well, with definition, and excellent particle effect useage. I have just started playing a campeign, I can't say a whole lot about the gameplay. I have just started learning how to wisely spend my resources and determine which technology should be researched in which order (I'll definately say you want a universal translator as early as you can get it!). I can tell I've just barely scratched the surface of the immense detail and many options that are available in this masterpiece, and I look forward with reckless abandonment to plunge deeper into the universe and political possibilites with the other races.

by the way, there are govenors for the social project build lists that helps a lot in the micro-management. And when you see the bonus pack goodies the game gets even more amazing. Now if i can invent a time machine so i can play all day and still show up for work...sigh

ArtiTecht,

Curious, where did you get GalCiv from?

Sorry T-Man, can't give away sources you'll be able to purchase it from it's home site (www.galciv.com) which links you to several vendors.

and thanks for the input midnight_louie! I'm learning more as I
play also, like I stated before, but it is definately worth the time to play! And a big thanks to Brad Wardell for not letting it fade away!

Mr ArtiTecht....The developers here at Stardock are also responsible for the creation of GalCiv. I believe what Jafo is concerned about is that you somehow have this before it's even been released. Care to comment?

Curious. I'm glad you're enthusiastic ArtiTecht. A lot of people have been working hard to make GalCiv happen. Now, as for that question? I didn't hear you the first time. Where did you get your copy?

Sorry guys, I won't divulge that info, but I will definately be purcashing a copy the moment it is released. Being an artist myself, I do not advocate piracy, but with it available to me, I had to take a look at it. Personally, this is one of the best games I've had the pleasure to play, and I believe that everyone involved deserves everything that is due to them, and probably more!

Mr. Cavanaugh... do you mean you found the source?

DDD, as I said I am glad you are enthusiastic about GalCiv. But James, I doubt even favorible comments on warez copies are welcome, as there is plenty of curiosity and confusion generated by such a complex form of entertainment. Not to mention encouraging such activity. Besides there is other repercusions. When I looked you up by clicking your name in this interface I went ahead and checked out your art submission. While I found the wallpapers to be incredible; I had to assume they are not really yours. One deceptive or illegal act ussually points to another. I would suggest you drop a quick line to the staff [email protected] asking this thread be deleted. And a brief apology explaining you are eager to purchace galciv come the 26th.

Absolutely I will do as you suggest RustyBlade, but I take great offense that you would say my work is NOT my own! Of course, I have the original files in various states of progress to prove such accusation wrong, so that is of no concern, it's the blind assumptions made without cafeful thought and processing of information at hand. I wanted to share that basically, I haven't been so enthusiastic for a game to come out in a very long time, and I had the opprotunity to check it out, so I did. I was so impressed that I felt I had to share it with the community and maybe get others excited about it by hearing it from someone, instead of an advertisement. All in all, to let everyone, including the developers know, what a masterpiece has been created.

DDD- I deleted your post. Please don't tell people where to find warez copies of our software. It is one thing that you say that you are using one, it's another to say where to find it. If you emailed T-Man about where it is, thank you, but don't tell everyone in the world.

Yeah, good enquiring minds don't want to know.
