Research treaties

Hi guys, I was wondering how research treaties work exactly.

I've searched around on these forums for related threads, but can't find much information.

Research treaties only seem to appear on your own side of the diplomacy window, regardless of your diplomatic standing with the other party or them having the related tech.

What I've gathered from other threads is that it's supposed to be that way, you propose the treaty and it automatically works both ways.

But why are the other races always so happy with my 'generosity', willing to pay me loads of credits for what should be an equally valued trade.

The description says both races get a 25% boost to research, so on terms of trade value it is equal.

What else struck me as odd was the fact that my research did not actually get any boost after I made a research treaty.

I took notice of the amount of research points I gain per week before I made the treaty, after I made the treaty and after starting a new turn.

The research points stayed the same.

Does it take a longer time to take effect?

Am I doing something wrong?

I've noticed this too, mainly with Free Trade agreements.  I don't see any boost as well, however, I keep forgetting to grab screenshots of this and saved games before and after.  I'm past that point now so I'd have to start a new game for this info.  Also it doesn't stack (so even if it is working no real reason to have more than 1 at any time.)  This could be a reason than why the AI sees it as such a great thing because you are already getting it and now you're allowing them to get it, although they could already have it with any other AI as well.

Thanks for the reply, I was a bit afraid this thread would go to the second page without getting someone's input. :)

I wanted to ask about stacking multiple treaties later, I'm glad that's cleared up already.

In my case the AI that was so happy about it was the first AI I offered it, so it would still have benefit to both of us.

Anyone else that can shed some light on this?

The treaties apparently aren't both ways. What's on the left side is what you give, what is on the right is what you receive.

Quoting ,

Also are they even working? I don't see anything in the tool-tip.

They do work, just not like one would expect:

The one who gives away the treaty gets credits, the one who recieves the treaty gets +25% to research/influence growth/manufacturing for 50 turns.

(this stacks, i have got around +500% to research in one game^^)

Those are also two-way-treaties meaning that if you give away the treaty you cant get it from the AI you gave it.

(But i have never seen an AI research it anyway)
