How to make Pleasure Domes more Interesting

Now you got a building that only makes set money per turn and some people called the building even boring. I would like to change the whole building into a Museum. Musuem you are saying?! Yes! Also with this Virtual Reality should be gone.

The Musuem:

There are 5 slots in the Musuem that can be filled with sculptures. These sculptures can be made from several Rescources (Iron, alu, sil, carbon and glass). Every Sculpture needs time to build and makes set money. The requirements of building a Sculpture(can be changed ofcourse for game balancing) would be 50 Iron/alu etc. units and 40 seconds to make the first Sculptures and add the timer on 10 seconds on every new sculpture(40/50/60/70/80).

The empty building itself will make a 50$  each turn. Every sculpture will make 50$ base(Glass 100$) dollar per turn and money based on how expensive the Rescource(Market Value) is (see below)(Price should be based on how much the Rescource would be worth on the market)(People can buy in let's say Iron so they can make their sculpture make more money (would only be 15-28$ per turn) If they want to risk it that the other doesn't have any iron on a stockpile)

If you have 2 or more sculptures of the same Rescources than there should be a multiply penalty (thoses 2+ sculpture would be worth a total: Money per turn * 0,8 (of the 2 or more sculptures)

Market Value of Rescources:

0-50 = +8 dollars added

50-100= +22 dollars added

100-150= +29 dollars added

150-200= + 36 dollars added

200-250= + 43 dollars added

250+ = +50 dollars added

(MV=Market Value)

(Prices for example below)Iron 6$

Alu 66$

Sil 106$

Carb 76$

Glass 220$

Example

So you have the Museum building > Make an iron Sculpture (40 sec) > iron Sculpture 50$ base + MV (8$)= 58$ a turn |    > Make Second Sculpture from alu (50 sec) > Alu Sculpture 50$ base + MV (22$)= 72 a turn  | 58$+72$= 130$ |    > Third Sculture from silicon (60 sec) > Silicon Sculpture 50$ base + MV (29$) = 79$ a turn | 130$+ 79$= 209$  |    > Fourth Sculpture Carbon (70 sec) > Carbon Sculpture 50$ base + MV (22$)= 72$   |  209$+72$= 281$ | > Fifth Sculpture from Glass (80 sec) > Base sculpture 50$ + MV (43$)=  93$ a turn | 281$+93$= 374$ a turn + 50$(empty building) = 424$ | (+ the colony bonuses if placed next to habitats).

This way The building will make more money and less boring over the course of the game. It is probably not worth it to go more than 2 Museums Because They won't make alot of money early on + they need rescources to make sculptures(and time to build). Also this way I can see it be viable in 1vs1.

The least of money the museum can produce if it has all of its sculpture(not the same Resc. sculp) would be 50$(empty building) + 250$ base money(of the 5 sculp) + 40$(5*8)= 340$

As for the the building Requirements.. ..they can stay the same as with power

Virtual Reality should be gone IMO. otherwise we could make a VR for offworlds..

Interesting idea! I'd be afraid that it might be confusing for new players to figure this one out and might make PD's a little too complicated. Right now new players don't build PD's as it is and they simply give you straight cash.

What is complicated about that!

Example Below:

5 Slots:

  Market        | -------------------------|

                   | Make First sculpture     |

                   | Iron-Alu-Sil-Carb-glass |

                   | ------------------------|

                   | Make Second Sculpture |

 Market         | Iron-Alu-Sil-Carb-glass |

                   | ------------------------|

                   | Make Third Sculpture    |

                   | Iron-Alu-Sil-Carb-glass |

    Marke       | ------------------------|

                   | Make Fourth sculpture   |

                   | Iron-Alu-Sil-Carb-glass |

                   | ------------------------|

                   | Make Fifth sculpture     |

                   | Iron-Alu-Sil-Carb-glass |

                   | ------------------------|

Building Description: The Musuem let's Martians see the history of Mars through Sculpture.(think of something else plz :P) This building will make you money on how many unique Sculptures you have in your Musuem. the only problem would be the UI, There is no spot for a Pd/Musuem window.

Every number must be memorized. More numbers means more obstacles before a newbie can start playing the game at a reasonable level. These barriers to entry discourage people from trying the game. Let's see what a player would need to memorize:

  • Iron, Alu, Silicon, Carbon, Glass (4 minable and glass)
  • 50 units to produce
  • 40 seconds for first
  • 10 second addition
  • $50 base production
  • $100 base production for glass
  • 0.8 penalty
  • 50 cost increment for bonuses
  • 8, 22, 29, 36, 43 bonus cash

That's a lot of numbers! It would be possible to trim a lot of things while preserving the idea:

  • Iron, Alu, Silicon, Carbon, Glass (4 minable and glass)
  • 50 units to produce
  • time to build is equivalent to the time to build a hacker array/patent lab/upgrade lab
  • nobody is allowed to build a duplicate, they are exclusive
  • resource price = cash per second

Now the player only has to memorize three things - the allowable resources, the upfront cost, and that they are exclusive.

If it works on base resources, it's too easy to abuse something like an aluminum monopoly. A Scav vs. non-Scav 1v1 would be especially dumb. Working on secondary resources would be better, because at least it can be countered by engineering labs.

This is probably a fairly minor detail, but museums don't make money...

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if there isn't a single museum on the planet that actually turns a profit at present, or even operates on it's own revenues.  The further out into the information age you get, the more quaint and inconsequential such things become.

Now art galleries are a for profit business and take a cut of the merchandise, and or charge a fee for the display.  Well managed ones can make an absolute killing, this would be a much more sensible fit for the proposition.

Museums are focused on display, not sale, and tended to have a huge gaping hole in their revenue/expenditure comparison even before people started looking at everything on the internet.  They're propped up by rich people throwing large piles of money at them in yearly charity drives, large trusts that fund their shortfalls through the profits of investments, the peoples not so well spent tax dollars. :)

Whatever it is will have to fit the existing Pleasure Dome animation, because it's too awesome to throw away...

End of Jaiwera's quote

This is just the basis of an Idea on how we can change the Pleasure dome to have it more interactive with the player. I doesn't need to be a Musuem. It was just what came in my mind at first.

You are saying that there are too many numbers, I must disagree. It is rather simple to remember.. ..You can choose between 5 Rescources which would be shown on a window which I showed on my second post. You can see that it would cost 50 Rescource, the number 50 that is also the base number. People don't need to know the  exact number (8,22,29,36,43 bonus cash) ( in the Description you can say that: Depending on how high the Marketvalue of the Rescource you are using on a Sculpture will make you more or less money. I still had the 100$ base glass there?(mybad) -> should be 50$ base .   the  0.8 penalty can be viewed on the tips screen. Carbon wouldn't be that of problem. The Scav also needs to have iron. + You can skip Carbon for the last Sculpture (or first when cheap) and just take carbon for yourself.

I think it is too convoluted and doesn't fit the profit driven martian theme. The PD already responds to map population, colony adj/proximity and competition. i don't think The PD needs to be more complicated or even changed.
