Part of the problem is that it has been local stuff. So locally, children go missing. They remain missing because their plight has not been widly enough recognized. The entire Amber alert system works because stories like this become national stuff. And once people get involved, caring that someone is missing, it seems only fair to share the good news when there is a happy ending. There is little enough of that these days.

Ok gm, good point there.

No real problem with it except for slightly annoying people like myself who are 'hard news' snobs

It's really good news that Elizabeth Smart is back with her family, however, I question the parents' judgement in allowing complete strangers off the street to come into their home and do work. It just doesn't seem like a very safe thing to do. This does not excuse the abductor, I just think that this situation could have been avoided if the Smarts had practiced good judgement in who they allow to come into their home.

you know what is stupid about this thread? I knew this news yesterday at 12 noon. It is not breaking news, but good for her. Glad it turned out alright.

And what about miranda gadis and ashley pond? no one posted a thread about them and they turned up dead.

Hey, Kona, yesterday when I wrote this title it WAS breaking news. I am not bright enough to know how to change the title after all this time. Maybe you know that trick?

Let it slide down the page into oblivion, as it should. But don't call a thread stupid because it is still around a full 24 hours later.

sheesh....

You posted the thread at 5 PM. We knew at 12 PM. Oh well. This thread is not stupid, thats not what I meant.

The times never line up locally, I posted it as the first report came on, as it was breaking.

let the thread die already, or maybe someone can delete it?

I didn't mean to piss you off. I'm happy for Elizabeth. About time something turned out OK. Peace Man!

Exactly, IPlural; I didn't realise there was a time-span for when breaking news stops being "breaking news" and turns into just "news". Also kona, remember when its midday for you, it isn't for some of us.

Everyone tells me to grow up? I think everyone has acted like a kid here in one thread or another. For instance I got in a real firce argument with Jafo the other day.

kona, it isn't really what you said it is how you presented it. Choice of words depicts the goals of the speaker, that or their lack of care for others feelings of validity in their personally help opinions...

WHen I said grow up, I ment it with exactly that in mind. Hell I have parts of me that need to grow up, they blurt things out and then are at a loss for why people get upset with them, including myself...

anyway...

Why is it national news?
To give parents of missing children hope.
To actually have a *positive* story come out for a change.

I don't listen to the news. It seems that everything is based on the negatives of the world, and never the positives. The world depresses me too much to pay close attention to the news. I rather spend the time with my family enjoying life.

I think it's great that she was found. And, I'm glad we heard about it. People have told be that they are already starting to make a sensationalized media hype over "what really happened" about it. Just sick. Just the reason I don't pay attention to the news. Also the reason I hardly ever watch TV (except for cartoons, 'that 70's Show' and 'Scrubs' )

Don't know the girl or the story but it's nice to have some good news for a change.

KarmaGirl - Why is it national news? To give parents of missing children hope.

Isn't it cruel to give them false hope? In most of these cases the child is either never seen again or their dead body is found.

False hope? when can hope be false?

Like false Love?

dun no... guess it can be seen that way, but I'd rather see it through Karmagirls eyes. Because 2000 kids a day go missing in this country if what they said on the news is correct. I *hope* that there is *hope* for those left searching, otherwise it just seems so hallow and devoid of meaning, loving your child I mean...

it's not like we are speaking about a green turtle or goldfish...

anyway...

if you are a parent, then you would understand. There is always hope if it's your child missing, you never, ever, consider that any other outcome is possible.
