Size dasn't matter

.
It has to be a .jpg, and if your resolution is like 1024X768 make it like that, if your resolution is higher, make it higher.

As for real help

I always do a thumbnail as a preview pic size 300 width. BTW, You also could have saved a preview to Your hardrive and loaded it into Your graphics program to lookup the metrics.
